Bali Surf Instructor Course

On our awesome Bali surf instructor course, we take you from beginner to instructor in only  8 or 12 weeks. You will be based in the Bali’s hotspot. A really cool, chilled out, ‘surfy’ village on the west coast of Bali. You will stay in a private villa (which has an amazing lush garden & funky plunge pool!) with your other course mates. You will be out surfing and coached twice a day by our highly qualified ISA surf instructors. We cater for all levels of surfing, so even when you’re just a beginner or an advanced surfer, we will make sure that you develop and work towards successfully passing your ISA assessment after 10 weeks. This 8 and 12-weeks is also suitable for surfers that just want to improve their surfing and can be booked without the ISA and Lifeguard exams for a 10% discount.

During your stay here you can expect to make friends for life and being based in one place a little longer allows you to experience Bali and Indonesia from a completely different perspective than the average tourist.

The Surf Instructor Course

Over the course of 8 or 12 action-packed weeks in Bali’s surf capital, you’ll take the ISA surf instructor course and the SLS lifeguarding course, and ride some of the best waves available every day.

 

What will my time in Indonesia Look like?

On average you can expect the following during your stay with us. You will be out surfing 6 times a week from dusk till dawn, twice a day. 2 times a week you will train with a personal trainer to assure you will be at the right level of fitness to pass your assessment.

Every Sunday we have a ‘restday’ on these days you’re free to do whatever you want,
maybe even more surfing! But we make sure that every other week we provide a
nice excursion so you can really soak up some of Indonesian finest scenery and get
you to experience that real Bali feeling.

During your stay here we want to make sure you become a well-rounded surfer
as this is a very important aspect of being a great surfer and instructor. To assure
this we make use of the amazing waves Indonesia has on offer. We will take you
on several trips to the famous G-land and trips to Lombok. But Bali itself has many
famous and infamous breaks that you will be surfing as well. One of the best ways
to learn surfing is not only by doing it as much as possible but also seeing yourself
surf to be able to understand potential mistakes you’re making. So during
your training, you will be filmed and photographed a lot so we can work on
your personal development.

Accommodation

Our boutique-style surf villas with 2 plunge pools offer high standard bedrooms with A/C & private bathrooms, you will share with max. 2 other surfers. The two villas are connected as one property. The Villas are located in Canggu and you can reach within 5 minutes three surf breaks. Next to the pool area there is an open kitchen/bar where you can hang out after your surf
session and share your Bali adventures.

There are several terrific communal areas, and one of the best positioned yoga studios out there with views over the surrounding greenery.

Meals

Only breakfast is included throughout the programme. But you can get a nice (and cheap) meal on every corner of every street. Meals are about 3 to 8 GBP per meal.

Breakfast is a choice of:

  • Pancakes with palm sugar syrup, bacon & fruits
  • Eggs scrambled, fried or omelette (with bacon and/or grilled veggies if you like)
  • Exotic fruit salad with yoghurt & granola
  • Local, Nasi or Mie Goreng with egg
  • Juice and or tea, coffee, cappuccino

The Indonesian currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). 1 euro is approximately 15.000 Rupiah.

The safest way to travel in Bali is by taxi.  Scooter is the main transport and fastest way to get around. Walking is possible but not very ideal. Experience is required for driving a scooter, and we do not recommend it as its dsuper busy and dangerous.

Yes you can. We offer insurance for just 25 euro a week that covers any damage or loss to our equipment (surfboards & leashes) while surfing.

Bali is a developed island. It is not necessary to take Rupiah from your home country. There are plenty of ATM`s around. In the airport you will definitely find 2 or 3 ATM`s.  A good starting amount is: 1 Million Rupiah that is equal to about 65 euro.

Don`t forget to take out your card from the ATM. The ATM provides money first then usually it will ask for another transaction before it will return your card.

Bali surfing conditions are excellent all year round! One of the best surfing locations in the world and offers year round the best surf you will find on the planet. If we have to give an indication when the swell is absolutely world class, then it is during the dry-season months: May till late October. Basically for all levels of surfer Bali is good all year round.

The weather in Bali is very consistent temperature wise and offers a lot of beach time. It is day and night warm with temperatures always above 23C – 26C during the night and day above 26C to 32C. Bali knows two seasons: Dry-Season and Wet-Season. Dry-Season: May till October and Wet-Season: November till April. Wet season is the hottest time of the year as well and is still good for Holidays. The rain will feel like an outdoor lukewarm shower. It hardly rains all day and the rain starts usually early in the morning and late in the afternoon. During the day it is mostly hot and sunny. Also in wet-season there are weeks that there is hardly any rain at all. So Bali offers year-round good weather conditions with a very very nice temperature throughout the year.

Dengue fever is one of the most common mosquito-borne diseases in Indonesia. These mosquitoes commonly breed in warm, humid weather and in stagnant water. Unlike most mosquitoes, dengue-causing mosquitoes bite during the day. Dengue infection along with other acute viral illness pose similar features: fever, bone and joint pain with or without skin rash. There is no vaccine for Dengue fever and there is no cure either. Dengue Fever can be prevented with precautions such as mosquito nets at bedtime and mosquito repellents.

This is just an advice, please consult your Doctor at home. The recommended vaccines for travelling to Indonesia based on the Centers for Disease Control are: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, Typhoid, Rabies, Tetanus, and Yellow Fever (only if you come from a Yellow Fever region). Ideally, you should get the vaccinations 4-6 weeks before travel, as some vaccinations require multiple doses and an immune reaction time.

If you are already in Bali we have several pick-up and drop-off options. If you are in Kuta or Seminyak our driver will pick you up or drop you off for free. If you want to be picked up or dropped off in Ubud the price is 250.000 IDR, the price for a pick-up or drop-off in Sanur is 150.000 IDR. If you are in a different part of Bali you will have to organise your own transport.

The one unifying goal of people attending the camp to get fit or fitter and have a great time in a beautiful location doing something healthy. It combines ultra luxurious accommodation with world-class fitness training at incredible prices.

Arrival day Sunday: You will be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation by a Xtreme Gap representative. Settle in relax after a long flight and sleep well. The next day walk to the fitness boot camp located close by where you will have your introduction session.

You make your way to the reception of the training camp, and our rep will introduce you to the trainers, give you a training schedule and give you your vouchers for the meal plan (2 meals a day Monday to Saturday). The meal plan starts on the day of the introduction. You just need to go there in your training gear, shorts, sneakers, t-shirt and a towel and water. The water you can buy at the resort or the training camp.

The location is superb, in Phuket, towards the south centre of the island the camp is located away from the touristic mess of Phuket’s livelier locations. On average there can be 50-100 people training at the camp, from all over the world and it is not unusual to be working out with professional athletes and fitness professionals. As well as clients who are on holiday and want to get in shape, as well as people of poor fitness levels who want to learn how to improve their physique. With so many people coming and training the camp, naturally, the latest fitness techniques are incorporated and developed in the training programmes. With just one month spent training at the Xtreme Gap Fitness Boot Camp, we can confidently state that you can develop so much further than six months with a personal trainer back home. Fitness results are really delivered.

Personal Training Session and Group Sessions.

Xtreme Gap Year BootcampOnce per week you will have a mentor session with a professional personal trainer,  and is well placed to advise nutrition, techniques and give you a roadmap during your stay to get the most out of your workouts.

As well as the personal training session, there are group training sessions, Monday to Saturday, with Gym access available seven days a week (But mostly Sunday is taken off for a well-deserved rest).

While there is plenty of training activities included, perhaps even more than most can handle, there is the option to book extra personal training sessions locally (Approx £45 per session), and you can even try other fitness activities like Muay Thai training (2 sessions a week are already included).

So what’s the catch? Well, nothing really, except you have to arrange your own flight to Thailand, you fly to Phuket which is very well connected internationally or via Bangkok and you need to make the effort in training of course! Just book early online and we will get you all prepared for your trip.

Every Saturday the whole crew hit one of the beautiful beaches and do an early workout. The perfect way to round of the week of intense training and enjoy paradise. Here is where we like to show our guest just exactly what makes this island such a beautiful place to train. Not only do we offer great beach training classes but we also like to make sure you know all the best places for your daily runs, hikes and general relaxation.

The Beach Boot Camp days are legendary, and they are probably the toughest training sessions throughout the week. The reward is you get to jump in the crystal clear sea after a one-hour session!

Everything Is Made Easy.

After booking, we will set you up with an online buddy list so you can chat to other people going to the camp, or people already training at the camp before you even set off.

Easy Arrival.

Thailand fitness bootcampOn arrival in Phuket, we will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your resort. As most of our guest travel solo, this really makes it easy when you arrive in Thailand for the first time. We recommend a Sunday arrival although we can be flexible (request trip notes for further details on the accommodation).

The Training Buddy List

Prior to arrival, you will have access to a facebook group of fellow bootcampers, so you will already know people at the camp and people arriving the same time as you. Makes integration even easier. It’s super supportive and a nice way to start. One of the best things about the camp is the atmosphere, most travel with us solo, so there is a very welcoming and social side to the camp.

Full Intro On Day One

On the first day of your training, our Xtreme Gap rep will give you a full introduction, introduce you to the trainers, show you around the camp and help you meet other Xtreme Gappers, and also talk you through the meal plan and training timetable (more on that below).

The rep is your first point of contact should you have any issues in Thailand. Perhaps you just want to know where to go to get your laundry done, where to have a good spa treatment or get the inside information on which restaurant has the best Thai red curry in town, all you have to do is ask. Everything is made really easy for you, allowing you to just focus on having a great time, getting fit and having a great holiday.

Also on the first training day (Monday) there is an afternoon nutrition seminar. We gladly go over your goals and help you with your meal plan.

How long should you go for?

Most people go for 2 to 6 weeks, due to time constraints with work, and two weeks is enough to start to see some good results. The main benefit you will take home the knowledge of how to maintain and improve your fitness back home along with a solid foundation or fitness.

Of course, you also have had an amazing holiday in Thailand as well, and it is not that often you can say you’ve come back from holiday feeling better than when you left!

Short-term guests will receive an amazing kick start to their health and fitness routine.

Many who travel with us use this as a kick-start to their travels as well, after all, if you are hitting the beaches in Thailand, you want to look and feel good!

Why Not Just Head To Thailand And Join A Gym?

Accommodation Options.

Luxurious Villas: Boutique & Deluxe

Don ´t hold back and spoil yourself!  Located in walking distance to the Thailand Fitness Bootcamp we have a stunning 4* resort. Set in a beautiful landscaped Thai gardens, you will find the uttermost peace and tranquillity, with two pools – (the pools are heaven after a training session), a restaurant and high-quality service.

  • The resort  (called the retreat) is 8 minutes walk to the training camp. There is a free shuttle service laid on to the training facility.

The Boutique Villas

Each private boutique villa comes with a large bed, air conditioning, flat screen TV/cable, DVD, WiFi internet, hot water en-suite shower and your own little outside veranda. The perfect place to relax after your day training, the outside communal lounge spaces are accompanied by easy sounds of fountains and birdsong surrounded by tropical plants. Heaven.

The Deluxe  Boutique Villas

The resort has upgraded rooms available. These have a separate living and kitchenette. Consider this a suite. This accommodation option is perfect if you wish to work while you are training at the boot camp. There are a desk and a living area that could be perfect office terrain. The room has air conditioning, private bathroom, fridge, microwave, lounge area with a sofa, wifi and cable tv.

Also ideal if you want to share accommodation. Maximum 2 people. Special prices apply for sharing accommodation. Please e-mail us for information. Please note the camp is not located right on the beach, although the beaches are accessible by taxi or bike.

Standard Accommodation Option

If your budget doesn’t stretch to the luxury options, go for the standard ensuite accommodation. Set in another resort, you have a clean comfortable room with air conditioning, private bathroom, fridge, desk, wifi, cable tv. This modern resort hotel has free high-speed internet, a nice pool and clean and comfy ensuite rooms.

Lean Option

If your budget is really tight, and you do not mind sharing your room,  you want to take advantage of one of the best value packages then consider the lean option.

This is a super trim version of the Bootcamp, which still provides all the training essentials, but no meals, PTs or excursions.

You get fun group training sessions, amazing trainers, gym access, airport pickup and our budget-friendly shared mini-dorm accommodation. The accommodation is very conveniently located next door to the training camp. We offer a six-bed ensuite female only dorm, and four-bed ensuite mixed dorm. Each dorm has an ensuite toilet and shower facilities. You are still able to access the pool at the standard resort located right next door to the training camp.

Please note: Check the inclusions section details what is excluded with the lean option. Meals, personal training sessions, excursions, Muay Thai sessions, Nutrition seminar and training top, are not included with the lean option but it can be purchased locally. You do get the essential group training, gym access, access to the buddy list, and accommodation.

Early Morning

If you wish, you can start with a good stretch in the morning by joining the Yoga class for an hour before the ‘real’ work begins.

Boot Camp

The boot camp training consists of 6 days a week Mon-Sat high cardio (fat burning) in the morning, using highly advanced techniques (request trip notes for further details and videos about this). These classes vary from Strenght & Conditioning, Crosstraining, Bodyfit, Spinning and Boxercise. They are designed to increase your fitness fast and efficiently. The groups typically have people training with a moderate physical condition and peak physical condition; this works well as the exercises are modified depending on your fitness levels and ability, so no one is left behind. The indoor gym is open on Sundays for those who want to train on the day off.

Open Matt Sessions

The whole camp is at your disposal to do your own workout. Use all the equipment the camp offers like battle ropes, assault course, med ball, torsonater, Olympic weightlifting bars with plates you can drop and a bunch of free weights so you can do your WOD (Workout of the Day) by yourself or team up with some of the other xtreme gappers.

Olympic Weightlifting

The sport of Olympic Weightlifting involves participants completing two separate lifts; the snatch and the clean and jerk. In Olympic Weightlifting class you will learn how to perform these two lifts. Performing this type of exercises will help with increasing power, speed, flexibility and strength.

The class is recommended for those who have little or no experience with these lifts. Coaches will put a heavy emphasis on obtaining proper form and execution of these lifts before you start to really increase the weight used in these exercises.

Don’t let the term Olympic weightlifting put you off, this is a multi-purpose workout that will improve your whole body and the way it performs. Once perfected it will make other exercise much easier. Olympic Weightlifting also has a major Neurological benefit.

 S&C (strength and conditioning)

Strength and Conditioning at our bootcamp is more than just your average fitness class! You will learn the exercise techniques that will lay the foundation for future training and transform your athletic ability and the way to push yourself hard beyond your limits. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced athlete: this training system will develop power, endurance, speed, agility, core strength. It will enable you to become more flexible. Not only will you perform better and remain injury free, but resistance training is also scientifically proven to promote weight loss.

Strength and Conditioning sessions run Mon-Fri afternoons at 5pm so that you can make the most of the weather here and chill a bit by the pool in the afternoon. This is a very good time to train as the heat drops, and the wind picks up to cool the sweat off your body, this helps to keep you motivated while training.

To keep our Strength and Conditioning sessions interesting, we constantly vary the format and emphasize a range of resistance exercise techniques and equipment to ensure no session is ever repeated exactly. Class intensity will be high, with all exercises demonstrated by our expert coaches to ensure correct posture and form so that you get the best results.

Beach training

Every Saturday the whole crew hit a beautiful beach and do an early workout. The perfect way to round of the week of intense training and enjoy paradise. Here is where we like to show our guest just exactly what makes this such a beautiful place to train. Not only do we offer great beach training classes but we also like to make sure you know all the best places for your daily runs, hikes and general relaxation.

However, when coming to such a tropical place you can’t miss out on the great beach training programme we have for you. The unique environment offers us an opportunity to run through some imaginative routines which take advantage of both the sun and the sea to ensure you get the best beach training to remember.

Mobility, recovery and Stretching

Two days a week we focus on recovery of the different musscle groups.

Shoulders: for strength, stability, and mobility of the rotator cuff along with the development of the supportive muscle groups for correcting imbalances of the anterior and posterior.

Core: for total spine support through strengthening and stabilizing the deep and external major core muscle groups along with spine mobility.

Hips: mobility and flexibility for improved ROM (range of motion) along with the development of the hip flexor muscle groups.
All to enhance movement, posture, and performance with your sport, fitness, health and wellbeing for longevity and injury prevention with your life and training.

Boxercise

Get fit without getting hit. Train and have fun and learn boxing technique without the fear of getting hurt or getting hit in the face:) We teach basic boxing technique and keeping the pace high to maximize calorie burn and keep the pace in the fat burning zone. We use boxing gloves and pads, which we provide in class for our clients. A different and fun class that we teach two times per week, Tuesday and Thursday 4-5pm.

Assault Course Class

Want to train different, want to learn how to use your body weight strength and run through Thailand’s biggest obstacle course? Then this is the class for you. Ex-Navy Seal coach will teach this class 3 times per week. He will break down the different and most efficient way to tackle the various stations to make your time better and better each time you run the course. The record is 1.52 min so that is what we are aiming for to beat:). This class is held Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4-5pm.

Spinning

We run spinning three times per week we have spinning class, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6.15pm. Tour the Thailand in one spot. We will also throw in some bodyweight exercises as well to mix it up. We are taking spinning classes to a new level, and it will be different to a normal spinning class, but we can assure you will love this!

Nutrition Seminar

Every Monday you can join our Nutrition Seminar. We discuss nutrition and how we should eat for a healthy lifestyle. We will guide you and make suggestions on what, how and when to eat so everyone is able to make their own meal plan on a generic basis.

Bodyfat Measurements

Not everyone at the camp is attending for weight loss.  So please note we do not incorporate body fat measurements using callipers as standard in the package. This is a service available locally on request for an additional small fee.

Yoga, Muay Thai Try It All

There are also options to join Yoga sessions taught by a highly qualified yoga instructor.

The Yoga sessions are first thing in the morning and are perfect to warm up your muscles and get you ready for a hard session at body fit.

Muay Thai

This is not a Muay Thai training camp; we specialise in fitness. That being said if you want to try some Muay Thai we include 2 Muay Thai sessions a week. This is a complimentary service. (about 2 GBP for gear rental per session)

The gym is open full-time Monday to Sunday (No group sessions on Sunday), you can train harder if you like, or explore Phuket and hit its stunning beaches with a body to match if you don ´t slack off!

Flights are not included, and please do not book your flights before booking with us as we do need to reserve your spot, and make sure there is availability. Submit your booking form and we will come back to you within 24 hours to confirm. Once we have issued you your confirmation invoice you are then good to book your flights into Phuket.

When should you go?

Whenever you like! It starts every Sunday. In our experience, the cheapest time to fly is between mid-April and October. This is a traditionally low season. The price of the Boot Camp remains the same throughout the year, however, this can seriously affect the price of flights. So if you are on a budget consider coming during those months.

Travelling alone is no problem it’s a very social environment.

Titan Beach-2015181_1024x683As we mentioned most people who attend the camp, are independent travellers and arrive at the camp on their own. If you are concerned about travelling solo, don’t be. There is such a social atmosphere at the camp, and it is a supportive environment that everyone gets to know each other very quickly.

We set you up on our buddy list system before you go (to chat online with other people attending the camp, and we promise you will make really good new friends, (serious physical exercise in a group can be quite a bonding experience we assure you!)

So really it does not take long for people to get to know one another.

While two meals a day are included in the meal plan, you are free to have dinner where ever you like, which tends to be very social.

People come from all over to train at our camp, so expect to meet new friends from all over the world and actually broaden your horizons and extend your connections at the same time.

The fact that most people travel there alone, also adds to the motivation factor, because everyone is there to succeed in their fitness goals, so everyone encourages and pushes each other to do more.

Location & Activities.

Thai fitness bootcampYou can expect great weather, fabulous food and exciting environment. Lots of culture and exciting day trips to be had. The training camp is about a 10 min drive from the beach, (taxis are cheap) there are temples, spas, and numerous activities like elephant trekking, diving, snorkelling, trekking and you can even head out to Phi Phi for some to die for beaches.

You can’t go to Thailand without trying a Thai massage as well, and after a few days training you might just want one! There are ample spa facilities in the vicinity of your accommodation, so it is very easy to reward yourself with a bit of pampering after all of your hard efforts with your training.

Visas.

You can enter Thailand on a 28 day Visa exemption if arriving by air, so for our clients staying just four weeks or under there is no need to arrange a Visa. If you intend to stay longer, you will need to pre-arrange a Visa, after booking we can send you all the information you need to do this, and our partners can even take care of this for you.

Booking Process.

The booking process is relatively straightforward, but please note spaces to fill up so we advise booking well ahead, last-minute bookings can occasionally be taken, but we do need at least ten days notice. Having said that we can rarely guarantee you space if you book last-minute, so please contact us if you want to make a last-minute booking.

To book all you have to do is submit your booking form, we will then check availability and send you your confirmation invoice. You can take this to the bank to pay (no charge), or pay online to a UK account, or you can pay online with PayPal (there is a 5% charge for this option).

If you are travelling within 12 weeks, you will need to pay the full amount. If you are travelling later than 12 weeks you only need to secure your place with £200 deposit, then pay the balance 12 weeks before departure giving you plenty of time to save flights and spending money.

So for only £200, you can make a commitment to yourself to get fit and healthy, tone up and feel incredible you just need to submit your booking form. Don’t think too long about it, as spaces to fill up so get it in early.

Trip Frequently Asked Questions.

People come to the camp with lots of different personal fitness goals, men and women, super athletes and people seriously out of shape! While most people that join are of average fitness, none are by the time they leave, so depending on the time you have to devote to your body and personal health, the results can be impressive. Don ´t be surprised to find professional body builders rubbing shoulders with Pro athletes and people wanting to lose weight in a supportive training environment.
The average age of the participants is between 20 and 35, but there are quite some over 35 that train at the camp. There could be staying up to 100 people at the camp, so you will find like minded people for sure.

Lean Option

For those on a tight budget yet still wanting to join the Thailand fitness bootcamp, we have the lean option. Overall it’s a superfit trimmed version of the standard package where you stay in a four or six bed dorm and have all of the group training access available in the standard option.

There is a saving of approximately 30% on the standard price. This means you would have to buy your own meals (easily done in the nearby cafes and restaurants near the Boot Camp) and add on personal training sessions and mid-size sessions plus external excursions should you want them but this can all be easily done in the resort.

Pool Access.

Clients on the lean package also have access to the swimming pool in the standard resort this is approximately 60 m away from the accommodation so you still have a great place to cool off after training.

So what do you miss out on if you book the lean package over standard?

The following is not included in the lean package but is available in the standard package

  • Nutrition seminar, standard and deluxe clients receive help creating the best meal plan for their stay.
  • Weekly personal training session one-to-one.
  • Excursions: access to beachfront runs workout sessions with transport.
  • Excursions: access to big Buddha run with transport.
  • Option to join the Thai classes two times a week
People join for 1 to 12 weeks. Some even stay up to 6 months! But even if you just have 10 days you are more then welcome to join and will notice the difference in your shape. Please note this is not your typical gap year programme, it can be undertaken by all, even on a short break to Thailand.

As a general rule everyone is different, but it depends on as much as the effort you put in when training, the techniques you use when training and the fuel you are putting in your body when you are training. The Fitness boot camp teaches you all these things and sets you on the right path to peak physical fitness.

Technique

One of the benefits of the camp is that you will be taught the proper techniques and exercises by experts (you would be amazed by how many people who do attend a gym, do an incorrect work out that is not effective and waste a lot of their time and energy, when these inefficient workout routines can be easily corrected with a little education). This is great because you will be able to take this home with you to continue once you are back from your trip.

Effort

Secondly, as there are lots of others training at the camp with the same fitness goals you will find that you end up pushing your efforts harder to reach your fitness goals. Why? Because everyone is there to support you, and it is a very encouraging atmosphere. The gym is always on your doorstep, and you are there to train, so there really is no excuse, especially when you have paid to attend the camp. There is no slacking off!

Fuel

Third, the meal plan is designed to help with weightloss and muscle mass gain. Lots of healthy, protein-rich and delicious food, of the Thai and Western variety.

It is incredibly easy to eat healthily here and we will cater to your nutritional requirements. You won’t see any processed foods here; it’s all freshly cooked and they use the best quality ingredients, it´s lean, clean and delicious. During your consultation, we will discuss and recommend the ideal nutrition plan to run alongside your training. In the programme, 2 meals per day Mon-Sat are included.

So how long is the ideal time to go for? Hard to say, we would suggest people start seeing results in as little as the first week, but real visible results come after about 2-3 weeks of continuous training. Some people go for months and really make a dramatic transformation.

Tailored nutritional advice can be provided by personal trainers during your one to one with a lot of experience in providing the correct diet matching to your personal fitness goals. This is backed up by a specially designed healthy eating menu. If you need a more tailored personal nutrition plan, we are also able to provide one for you at extra cost. This will involve measuring your body fat and optimising your calorie intake to complement your training. Please ask us prior to booking additional nutrition options.

The gym at the Thailand Fitness Bootcamp is brand-new for 2016. Includes all you need to work on strength and conditioning training: hammer strength benches, curl bench and bar, incline, squat rack, sit-up benches, 3 racks of dumbbells, stationary bikes, Nautilus machine with pull down, seated row, leg press, and 4 full sets of kettlebells which are highly regarded for hardcore weightlifting workouts and plenty of plate weights to accommodate several weight-lifters at the same time. You have Unlimited access to the gym and there are always fitness trainers are able to advise you and guide you throughout your workouts.

 

At the training camp you are a 40 minutes taxi ride away from Phuket town and 40 minutes from the airport.

Phuket has a tropical monsoon climate. It is warm all year round, but the two periods of April-May and September-October are the hot months. The September-October period is also the wet. The best time to visit Phuket is during the cool monsoon season, from November through March. Then it isn’t so humid, and the cool breezes keep it comfortable. The average temperature is around 75F to 89F (24C to 32C).

The Thai new year is celebrated on the 13 and 14th of April! it’s an amazing event, waterfest!

We have classes at 11.00 and 19.00 (times can change) for the customers who do want to get in a bit of training. The missed out meals will be served before and after Songkran.

The beaches are about 6km from the camp. The best way to get there is by bike, scooter or taxi. There are always more people going on the weekends, so you can join each other. In the neighbourhood there are pools, and if you stay at our luxury resort you can chill by one of the two pools it offers!

Vegetarian and Vegan´s also have options at the restaurant. Not all the fun has been taken out of the menu, you can still get French fries made with unpeeled potatoes! Also included at the Restaurant for extra costs is our protein and fruit shake bar offering a wide variety of Fruit and protein shakes and a selection of drinks to keep our guests maintaining a high amount of protein in their diet to help build muscle and lose fat.

If you are thinking it might be a little intimidating arriving at a fitness boot camp, you will be pleasantly surprised. There is a great supportive atmosphere, where everyone has a similar goal, to benefit from improving their fitness and well-being. Also you will have a serious introduction by our representative who will help you settle in and introduce you to the trainers and team at the fitness camp. He will explain you about all different training sessions and the meal plan (also included!). There can be up to 100 people at the camp so do not worry about being arriving on your own!

The camp is quite remote and there are no tourist bars and big supermarkets in the neighbourhood. Also, everyone you meet will be training and will be working on their health and fitness, so it is not hard not to go out, as everyone is focussed on getting fit! Also, we include a meal plan. These 2 meals a day are very fresh and healthy and we also include water and fruit. The other meals you can order at our restaurant or you can eat out in one of the restaurants down the road, they all have a healthy menu!

If you are planning on travelling to Thailand for 30 days or less and you have British, Dutch & Nordic or USA passport you can get a Visa exemption on arrival. This is valid for 30 days and can be extended in Thailand on Phuket for 30 days more. The cost will be around 1900 THB. Or (easier and more organised) if you are planning on being in Thailand longer than 30 days you will need to pre-arrange a Visa. You can prearrange a visa for 60 days which you can extend to 90 days in Thailand.

There are two ways of arranging your visa. When you are from the UK. You can either go in person to the Thai embassy in London, or you can post your passport along with the necessary documentation and fee to one of the Thai Consulates. In general, this works the same for the other countries like The Netherlands and United States too, but please contact the nearest Thai Consulate for visa inquiries.

Please note that you are responsible for arranging your own visa. Xtreme Gap cannot be held responsible if you fail to travel with the correct visa. So please check with your local embassy personally. The previous information is meant as a guide, but visa rules change often and frequently. So do not take this as the current law.

Training to become a Divemaster anywhere is a fantastic way to spend several months abroad. There are few other travel activities that can provide you with this much adventure and fun and of course the excitement of being underwater in a completely different world totally different to everything you are used to. On this course, it is particularly special because it is located in the Caribbean, on the world’s second-largest barrier Reef, with some superb dive sites so you will really enjoy your days diving in crystal clear seas.

Utila, the smallest of the smallest islands off the coast of Honduras in the Bay Islands has it all! On the island of Utila, which borders on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef system, (the 2nd largest reef in the world after the Australian Great Barrier Reef) you will discover some of the most beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and tropical island sunsets in the world. With over 100 different dive sites to choose from, including caves and wrecks (such as the famous Halliburton), here scuba diving is always interesting and never crowded.

The reef system is home to more than 65 species of stony coral, 350 species of mollusc and more than 500 species of fish. Also, it is known as the “Whale Shark Capital of the Caribbean” and is a famous location for Whale Shark encounters, year round.

And it’s not just the diving! You will be living the life on a tropical island in off the coast of Honduras in the Bay Islands. There is plenty to do here, stunning beaches, water sports, exploring and also quite a bit of nightlife! Itinerary

Divemaster internship Honduras (14)There is no set itinerary during a Divemaster course, each day is different with different dive sites and different things to learn depending on which stage of your Divemaster internship you are at. Typically a day would involve waking up bright and early, pack equipment jumping on the boat and then going for a spectacular dive before breakfast, some days you will be shadowing instructors, other days taking clients the dive is leading them through the dive sites and giving them their pre-dive safety briefings, and of course there is some theory and study about the safety of diving and everything you need to learn to become a Divemaster.

PADI Divemaster internship in the Carribean with Xtreme Gap

Students with no dive experience. 7-week programme

No diving experience necessary but we suggest that you have at least tried diving in a pool or have done a Discover Scuba Diving course to see that you enjoy the experience. We would take you through Open Water, Advanced, Rescue, First Aid and Divemaster.

Dive and Learn Every Day

Divemaster internship Honduras (21)During your Divemaster training, you will be able to dive and learn every day. You will discover a mix of hard and soft corals and abundant marine life from sharks to turtles and thousands of fish. The sites vary in depth from just a few meters down to 40 meters, there is little current and the water temperature is always warm, ranging from about 27 Celcius to 32 Celcius offering amazing conditions to dive every day of your Divemaster course abroad!

personal attention and training. You will be part of the crew once you have done your open water, advanced open water and rescue diving certificates as you then start the Divemaster internship.

From that moment on you will be assisting at dives and following your own personal instructor teaching you all you need to know as a Divemaster. You will meet divers from all over the world, some staying long term just like you and some just diving for a few weeks.

Accommodation

Your home away from home will be in a shared apartment 5-10 minute walk from our Divecentre. You will share with other students, which makes it super social.

Accommodation is including wifi, cable tv, hot water, AC and weekly cleaning. Electricity is charged extra.

Usually, after a day of diving, you meet up for a drink and chat with the staff, other divemaster students and dive customers that you might have been guiding underwater.

The diving on UtilA is some of the best found on the planet, with over 40 dive sites, wreck dives, lots of marine life (including dolphins!), walls and shore dives. Why you should become a Divemaster and train in the Caribbean:

You need to be a confident swimmer and at least 18 years old. Furthermore, you have pass the check for the health requirements before arriving to make sure that you are OK to dive.
Officially you need 40 logged dives to start the DM course and 60 to get certified. As soon as you get here we will get you diving and once we know you are comfortable in the water you can start helping out on dives, staying shallower with less experienced divers, while the instructor goes deeper but within sight, or staying with divers who use a lot of air so you can take them up when they get low on air. If you are not studying or completing assignments you will be diving, probably 1 or 2 dives a day.
All diving equipment is included for ow, aow, rescue and EFR, but when you start your Divemaster we provide use of BCD/regulator/weights/tanks but expect Divemaster candidates to have their own mask/snorkel, fins, dive computer, SMB, wetsuit, dive light. We can offer a special rate for this.
You can do the Utila Dive Master Course all year round. March through to November is the dry season, but even in the rainy season, you can come as we do not get much rain. You can expect busy times during Christmas and cheap flights in November.

For the course we quite often have 2 or 3 Divemaster trainees at the same time. If not, there are always other divers at the location. They are also very into diving and you will have lots of fun with them!

We suggest that you have at least $200 – $300 spending money a week for food, drink and personal expenses. Meals out are $5 – $30 depending on the restaurants. If you buy food and cook you can obviously live more cheaply.

DAY 1
ARRIVE IN BALI

We will be at Denpasar airport to meet you when you arrive. You have the day to relax by our rooftop pool or explore the local beaches before we meet in the evening for a welcome BBQ to meet the rest of your group.

DAY 2
TANAH LOT & ROYAL TEMPLE

Our awesome local guides take us to visit two of Bali’s most beautiful temples today – Tanah Lot and the Royal Temple of Tamun Ayun. These temples are steeped in history and are a big part of the Balinese way of life. In the evening we catch the sunset from the local beach before dinner and a night on the town in one of Canggu’s awesome bars.

DAY 3
SURF’S UP!

Surfs up on day 3! We head to Kuta Beach to get a learn how to catch a wave with our awesome local instructors. Never surfed before, no worries, everyone can join. In the afternoon there’s time to shop in Kuta’s markets and then chill out and catch another awesome sunset at our rooftop pool.

DAY 4
UBUD & WATERFALLS

It’s time to pack our bags as we move to the town of Ubud. Ubus is an amazing town amongst rice fields and there is lots to do here. En route we make a stop at a beautiful waterfall to cool off before arriving at our awesome hotel. You will have the chance to freshen up before we head out to visit one of Bali’s most famous live music venues for an evening of singing and dancing.

DAY 5
COOKING CLASS & MONKEY FOREST

In the morning we go shopping for ingredients with a local family before they teach us how to cook some of Bali’s best dishes in their home cooking school. The afternoon we meet the famous locals of Ubud in the Monkey forest – The hundreds of monkeys present are believed to protect the temple within and it’s the perfect time to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures.

DAY 6
LOCAL MARKETS & RICE TERRACES

Have a chilled morning by the pool or explore Ubud’s fantastic (art) markets for souvenirs before we head for lunch with stunning views overlooking an active volcano. We spend the afternoon wandering the stunning rice terraces which are still used to farm rice for sale all over the world.

DAY 7
HEAD TO THE GILI ISLANDS

It’s time to catch a ferry and head over to the picture perfect  Gili Islands – We get to our base in Gili Trawangan around midday and will have a free afternoon to explore the island or catch some rays by our pool. We then head out to watch the sunset as well as grab some pictures on the well known Gili T swings.

DAY 8
ISLAND HOPPING ADVENTURE

We spend the day island hopping around the magical Gili Islands. You will get to snorkel incredible reefs, shipwrecks and underwater temples before taking a pit-stop on Gili Air for lunch. In the afternoon we head round to Turtle point where you are almost certain to swim with these local legends and enjoy some up close and personal time before heading back to Gili T.

DAY 9
BIKE RIDE AROUND GILI TRAWANGAN

As there are no motorized vehicles on the Gili islands we hop on our push bikes to do a round trip of the island – Stopping off at viewpoints and secluded beaches. We then head out in the evening for a party at the local beach bars. They know how to party here!

DAY 10
HEAD TO LOMBOK

We finally say goodbye to the infamous Gili Islands and hop across to Lombok Island for the next part of your adventure. After a short, but beautiful ferry ride, we jump on a private bus down to Kuta Lombok on the south coast and check into our new hotel for the next 2 nights.

DAY 11
SASAK VILLAGE & WATERFALLS

Today you are in for a treat! You will get a culture fix in the morning as you visit a traditional Sasak village to learn about the cultural customs of the locals, before heading north to spend the afternoon at some of the most incredible waterfalls you will ever see at Benang Kelampu.

DAY 12
LOMBOK BEACH CRAWL

Spend the day beach hopping across the south coast and experience the untouched beauty that Lombok has to offer. You will get to visit Mawun Beach in the morning followed by Lancing ‘Secret’ Beach and finishing off at Selong Belanak where you can chill in the shallow seas for the afternoon or hire a surfboard (optional) for those who have caught the bug.

DAY 13
TRAVEL TO SUMBAWA

Today is mainly a travel day. After breakfast, we jump on a bus and head to the northeast of Lombok and catch a ferry to the neighbouring island of Sumbawa. It will take approximately 7-8 hours to get to our beach resort but when we get there, you will have the rest of the day to relax by the pool and recharge.

DAY 14
MOYO ISLAND DAY TRIP

We catch a small boat over to the gorgeous Moyo Island where we will explore the local waterfalls and beaches this picturesque island has to offer. Our local guide will take us to the hotspots and hidden gems before we head back to our resort for sunset drinks.

DAY 15
SATONDA ISLAND

Today we set sail for the next 3 days on our liveaboard boat and head towards the Komodo Islands. Our first stop is Satonda Island. Visit an inland saltwater lake and enjoy snorkelling around the islands stunning reef. In the evening we tuck into a sunset BBQ on the boat.

DAY 16
MANTA POINT, KOMODO ISLAND, PINK BEACH & PADAR ISLAND

An action-packed day. Start by snorkelling with some Manta rays before visiting Komodo Island to spend some time with the famous Komodo Dragons. After lunch we head to Pink beach for some more snorkelling and we finish the day with a trek to the famous viewpoint on Padar Island for sunset. The perfect postcard pic!

DAY 17
KANAWA ISLAND & FLORES

Today is our last day of activities. We wake early for breakfast, sail to Kanawa Island and spend a few hours here snorkelling and taking in the lush surroundings before heading to our final destination Labuan Bajo, Flores. We should arrive around 3pm which give us time to make use of our hotel’s awesome pool before we say our final farewells over dinner.

CHILLED CHECKOUT

The fun doesn’t have to stop here if you’re traveling on, our expert Group Leaders will help you book everything you need to get to where you’re heading, whether that be on to some more islands, other countries, out Bali bootcamp or back to the airport to catch a flight, we’ve got you covered!

ACCOMMODATION

Our accommodation is mainly in twin share accommodation in some awesome hotels. You will always be sharing a room with someone of the same sex from your group. We do sometimes stay in dorm accommodation which will be exclusive to our tour group. We use the best accommodation in each location and we have been using them for many years. Its extremely safe.

No, flights to your destination are not included and you will need to book them yourself however we can help you! Also, we will be at the airport to meet you once you arrive.

Yes, lots of people come on our trips alone, its a great way to meet new people and you will never feel alone from the moment you arrive as you will instantly be travelling with an awesome group of like-minded people.
There no age limits on our trips, however, most of our travellers are between 18 and mid 30’s. Remember you’re only as old as you feel! 
It depends on your nationality and which destination you are travelling to. For full visa information please check the Indonesian embassy website
Everyone spends differently so it’s hard for us to give an exact amount but we usually recommend around £150 – £250 per week is sufficient for you to have an epic time. All your activities, transport and accommodation is covered by us so you just need to worry about what your food, drink and shopping which is usually pretty cheap in Asia. Please note we can not be held responsible if you start popping bottles of champagne on the first night and run out of money ?
Ideally its best to arrive on the start date of the tour however you can arrive up to 2 days before and we will still pick you up from the airport.
No we can pick you up from the airport at any time of day or night so you can pick the best flight that works for you.

For most of our destinations, you don’t need any specific vaccinations however its always good to check with your doctor to make sure you have an up to date tetanus jab.  


Food is usually not included however we do include occasional meals on day trips. We do also head out every evening for a group dinner at some awesome our favourite spots.


Your group leader will get in touch with you a week before your trip to confirm your meeting time/flight details and to introduce themselves. 


If you have an allergy you must let us know as we will make your group leader aware. We also recommend printing out allergy cards in the local language. These cards can be easily found on google and are great to carry as they can be shown to the restaurants we eat at to explain your allergy in depth and make sure nothing gets lost in translation.

We head out every evening as a group for dinner and often drinks. We take you to some of the coolest spots around as well as some hidden gems we’ve discovered over the years. This is not part of the itinerary so you do not have to participate but we try to maximise your adventure.


We would always recommend a backpack. Suitcases are not ideal for Asia as even if your suitcase has wheels its very hard to pull it across the beach. If its your first time with a backpack, you’ll never look back after.


We are not going to force anyone to do anything they might not want to do so if you’re not confident on a push bike and want to sit out a bike ride or not a fan of open water and want to stay on the boat during snorkelling that’s absolutely fine, its your adventure!


Yes we try and balance our itineraries with a nice balance of awesome activities and free time to explore the local surroundings, shop or even get a well earned massage.

There are ATMs readily available in all of our destinations so we would recommend getting a travel card with good rates and withdrawing cash locally rather than carrying big amounts with you. If you are going to bring cash you would get a better rate if you exchanged in Asia so bring your home currency with you.

ACCOMMODATION ON KOH TAO BEACH WEEK

The location of our accommodation on Koh Tao is perfect! A 2-minute walk from the beach you will find your beautiful new, safe and clean home from home.

Our accommodation is one of the few places on the island with a swimming pool, which in 30 degrees heat is a godsend. Your room, basic but spacious and comfortable, will have an en-suite and there is a maid service. There is a laundry service (approx £3 per big bag load) as well. Linen and towels are provided.

It will also help if you use a backpack rather than a suitcase as it will be more comfortable for you to travel around with but don’t worry, your pre-departure pack has a packing list too.

The areas that we visit during the tour are generally considered malaria free, however, this can change so always speak to your GP before you travel and if you are going to other areas of Thailand and S.E. The Thai new year is celebrated on the 13 and 14th of April! it’s an amazing event, waterfest! We have classes at 11.00 and 19.00 (times can change) for the customers who do want to get in a bit of training. The missed out meals will be served before and after Songkran.

Koh Tao is a tiny tropical island with great beaches and bays in the Gulf of Thailand

The 3 week Itinerary

First Week

Day 1, Arrival Day

Arriving on Sunday or start your adventure in the all some ancient capital of North Vietnam Hanoi. This is it! The beginning of your 3-week adventure that is full of excitement, culture, history, a road trip and great times with new friends. With an airport pick up included you settle into your accommodation in Hanoi, you´ll get a chance to meet up with your fellow backpackers and find out about everyone you´ll be spending the next few weeks with.

Most people on our Vietnam Experience are in the same boat, i.e. they are travelling solo, so there is no need to be nervous. You´ll be far too busy to worry about that!

Day 2 Hanoi old quarter

Xtreme Gap Vietnam experienceTo new visitors, Hanoi is a fantastic city bustling with crazy drivers, overloaded bicycles, colourful markets and street food stalls selling local dishes, some of which aren´t always identifiable (and yes, they are partial to chomping on a bit of Fido!).

Luckily you have a guide to help you through that initial culture shock, allowing you to absorb it with a bit of help. You´ll visit the 12th century Temple of Literature, see a local music performance and have lunch in the Old Quarter when your guide will take the opportunity to tell you all about what the next four weeks has in store. In the evening, you´ll have dinner and see a performance at the world famous water puppet theatre.

By the end of today, the sensory overload will either have you sleeping like a log or wide awake with wonder! Check out this gallery on our blog for more photos!

Day 3

Halong BayToday we are heading to Halong City gateway to the world heritage site of Halong Bay.

Halong Bay, which means ´Bay of the Descending Dragon´, is approximately 170km north of Hanoi and is famous for its surreal and somewhat eerie landscape of over 3000 limestone monoliths that rise imposingly from the ocean.

Just make sure that you get those all important emails addresses from your trip mates so that you can swap photos and keep each other up-to-date with any more adventures you do. Believe us, this trip will leave you wanting more. There is no vaccination for the travel bug!!

Day 4 and 5

Vietnam is full of epic landscapes, Giao Xuan is a stunning little village that will not disappoint. Today we’ll learn everything there is to know about Vietnamese culture. You will be learning some basic trying your hand Vietnamese cooking, and we will even take you to a local market where you can haggle for some ingredients for a major feast later that day.

Day 6 Quintessential Vietnam paddy fields caves and temples

Vietnam gap yearToday involves a relaxing boat trip around Tam Coc and Dinh Cac Pier, which has a stunning landscape of towering karst islets and vast expanses of paddy fields. You´ll also float through three impressive natural caves, which is what the name Tam Coc means, ´three caves´. This whole area epitomizes rural Vietnam, and you´ll want to make sure your camera is charged.

After lunch, you can cycle to the village and onto Thai Vi Temple and Bich Dong Pagoda, which dates back to 1428 and is located on Ngu Nhac Mountain.

Day 7 and 8 (Sat & Sun)

Its weekend! You have a couple of days ´off´ at this point in the trip – that is you are free to explore at your own pace and see what you and your adventuring friends can find. Meet up in the evenings and swap stories and photos with the whole group, while soaking up the atmosphere and thinking about everything you’ve seen and done so far. Typically the groups head out to Cuc Phuong National Park, the picturesque waterfall, and temples of the 11th c former capital, Hoa Lu. Our guides can offer you advise on what’s best to see in the area.

Second Week:

Day 9 (Mon) Sapa

A local village, hill tribes and beautiful scenery are on the agenda today. Cat Cat Village is about 1km from Sapa, located at the bottom of the Muong Hoa Valley and as you walk there you´ll see the breathtaking mountains, over 3000m high, and the green rice terraces that drop almost 1000m below. You´ll also pass the sparkling Cat Cat waterfall. The village itself is home to the H´Mong tribe, who retain many of the old customs and traditions, some of which you can see, such as hand weaving and dying of materials to make textiles. Have you still got room for souvenirs?!

Locals and villages

We hope you´re feeling well rested for today as there is a 10km trek through the hills, past the streams and into the valley of Muong Hoa to visit Ta Van village, where you’ll stay overnight with a local family. This gives you the chance to experience firsthand the lifestyle and culture of the people living in this area. After the long trek, the pool is bound to look appealing to soothe those aching muscles! You also have the chance to pitch in and help to cook dinner (you might even get to use some of the skills you learnt in your cookery class) before settling down for a peaceful night with your local hosts.

Day 10 (Tue) trekking
Bring your trekking boots because we are going on an epic journey. 10 hours of trekking through hills, paddy fields and classic Asian scenery until we hit Ta Van village. Take a dip in the pool there because you have deserved it.

Day 11 (Wed) Waterfalls and landscapes and trekking

You´ll have been glad for a peaceful night as today is an amazing seven hour round trip trekking to a waterfall and passing through some stunning landscapes along the way something that you´ll probably be getting used to now, given how beautiful the country is. Anyway, you´re young and fit so no slacking, you can handle it!

Day 12 (Thu) Sapa

Back to Sapa and a well earned rest. Kick back and sip a 666 Vietnamese beer. Super cheap and very tasty!

Sapa  is perfect for a well-earned rest. You´re more than halfway through your adventure so you can sit back, chill out and reflect on all the places you’ve been, things you see and people you´ve met so far. We reckon by this point you´ll realize this is one of the best things you’ve ever done!

If you are up for it check out the beautiful orchid gardens on the Ham Rong Mountain. Located in Sapa town, you don´t have far to travel to admire the panoramic views, gardens and unusual rock formations. It is well worth the effort of walking to the top as once you get there, and along the way, you´ll be rewarded with some great photo opportunities.

Day 13 (Fri) Market

Today you’ll visit the beautiful local market and beautiful old Sapa church in the morning.  You’ll have free time for the rest of the day until your bus back to Hanoi.

 

Day 14 and 15 (Sat & Sun) Hanoi craziness free time

Yes weekend again :). You’ve had quite a number of days admiring the beautiful Vietnam countryside and now it´s back to crazy Hanoi. You have a couple of days to explore more of the city, after which time you can decide whether you love it or hate it, it´s a bit like Marmite! Your guide will be able to give you the lowdown on the best places to visit and where to eat and drink.

You then have two days to explore the incredible city of Hanoi – our guides can give you some great suggestions of places to go, although often the group will have their own ideas there is only things you can see and do it will be hard to cram it all in. Stock up on snacks and charge your smartphone batteries because the following night you will be doing a very long bus trip which takes us to Hoi an.

Third Week 3: Days 16 – 21

Day 16 Hoi An is awesome

You will arrival to Hoi An in the afternoon and have time to visit Hoi An Old Quarter.  It has a distinctly French colonial flare, and it’s also an awesome place to get any type of clothing tailor-made for you!

You could spend time exploring the town and its many alleyways of cute shops, cafes and extensive food market or maybe hire a scooter and head out to the gorgeous local beaches.

Day 17 Ancient Ruins

You will visit the ancient ruins of the Cham dynasty in My Son. Ancient ruined temples two massive towers a really special place.

We will join the bus to transfer to Nha Trang tonight.

Day 18 & 19 Beach time

Na Trang has fantastic beaches and great nightlife. Nha Trang’s golden beaches are yours for the taking, alternatively, take a boat trip to nearby islands or sample sumptuous seafood.

Day 20 Saigon/ Ho Chi Minh

It’s been a huge epic journey but finally, we’ve made it to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Sai Gon)! Arguably one of the most beautiful cities in Vietnam, it has a distinctively different feel to Hanoi.

Day 21 (Sat) Saying goodbyes

On day 24 you will stay in Sai Gon where it will be time to say goodbye to your travel buddies. Lifelong friendships will have been formed, incredible time is had by all, in a truly stunning country. At the end of an amazing trip before continuing with your onward travels

Meals

Only breakfast is included throughout the programme. But you can get a nice (and cheap) meal on every corner of every street. Meals are about 1 to 3 GBP per meal.

Vietnamese meals consist of rice or noodles accompanied by fish or meat and a vegetable dish or soup. But in many places, you can also get Western food like pizza!

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

The winter months are December, January and February. It can be quite cold as you also go up to the north is Sapa, which is in the mountains. In January, there is no start date but in December there is. Be aware that you can not sunbathe.
Vietnam is a very safe country to travel in. You will also have a co-ordinator with you at all times.

No! You can get away with taking about 100 per week, and that will go a long way! A beer on the street in Hanoi is about 7p.

Day 1 – Manila
In and around Manila

Arrive at any time on day 1 and your guide will be there to meet you at the airport. Weave through the streets of one of Asia’s most frenetic cities straight to your accommodation. Time to settle in and meet the group! If you arrive earlier in the day, you can use your time to explore the city and do some last-minute shopping. In the evening we get together for a BBQ on the roof terrace overlooking the city, and then on to experience some Manila nightlife!

Day 2 – Puerto Princesa
Palawan here we come! Today we take a short flight to the southern end of the Palawan Islands. We check in to our guest house and then head to the Iwahig Prison. This is a strange ‘prison without walls’, where inmates control how the prison functions. They even have a mayor! Meet and interact with some inmates and hear their stories. We then take you to the Bay Walk, where you can try all different kinds of famous Filipino food in small food stalls lining the water. Later in the evening we head out for some more fun!

Day 3 – Underground River & Port Barton
After a quick breakfast, we head to the famous Underground River. We go by boat through the incredible subterranean river system. In the afternoon we make our way from Puerto Princesa to the stunning fishing village of Port Barton. This is when you will truly feel like you’ve arrived in paradise but trust us, it gets better! Spend your evening sipping fresh coconuts on white sand while listening to some island reggae in the background. Tonight we stay in traditional Filipino beachfront bungalows. Accommodation here is basic but comfortable and in a great location.

Days 4 and 5 – Island camping with the locals
Jump on a local fishing boat to take you to our tropical island beach camp. Tucked away on a secluded beach, the camp has everything we need. Snorkel with turtles, explore the island, or catch fish to grill by the beach over a couple of beers. This is your time to truly experience idyllic island life. We have our own boat, which allows us to explore the surrounding islands and experience how the local island communities live. In the evening, we get together around the fire by our own little beach ‘bar’ and watch the spectacular sunset that this area is famous for. Perfect! For the more adventurous, we visit a secret rainforest waterfall for a dip on the second day to wash off all that sand and salt. Don’t worry about food either, our local guides will be catching fish during the day while we explore the area and cook up feasts for us! Condition permitting, we will visit one of the small schools on neighboring islands to meet the kids and find out what it’s like to grow up in a remote area of the Philippines.

Day 6 – Bound for El Nido
In the morning we all jump into a bus and we are on our way to El Nido! When we arrive, you will see why Palawan was named the most beautiful island group in the world. Surrounded by islands and cliffs, El Nido is a secret paradise we are lucky enough to share. Once you pick your jaws up off the ground, we will check in to the funkiest hostel in Palawan. Exclusive to Xtreme, this slick hostel looks more like a boutique hotel than a backpackers! Settle in, then head out to one of our favourite beach bars in the evening for food and fun.

Day 7 – Island hopping
Today we set sail on the most (in)famous boat in El Nido!  This custom built boat will take us on an island hopping adventure to secret beaches and pristine reefs. Go kayaking over the emerald waters or jump in and snorkel over coral teaming with life. The awesome crew will take care of all your food, and include all your beer, rum, and cocktails in the afternoon. So go on, you’ve earned a drink! We have music on board, chill-out areas, and a freshly cooked buffet including of the best seafood you can get. Before we set sail back to El Nido, get some pictures of you doing a backflip off the boat with the sun setting in the background, or just relax on deck listening to the music on board.

Day 8 – El Nido town
In the morning, we climb up to the top of one of the cliffs surrounding El Nido bay and get the most spectacular views in the area! After the big morning, we feel you’ll need some chill out time. We include a traditional Filipino massage to ease those muscle aches. Take your time today to relax and soak up your surroundings, or explore the surrounding area. Ask your guide where the coolest spots are, or just discover them for yourself!

Day 9 – Cultural experiences and zipline at Las Cabanas
We spend today outside El Nido in small villages with the local people. We try a little fishing in traditional boats, learn about the many uses they have for coconuts, discover the secret for cooking a perfect ‘Adobo’ (national dish of the Philippines), try your hand at weaving with palm leaves, and finish with a Halo-Halo (Filipino iced dessert). When you are feeling brave enough, it’s time to take a hike up to the top of the mountain overlooking the beach. Why? Because this is your time to know how it feels to fly across the ocean between two islands over beaches and corals reefs. Once you finish your zipline on Snake Island, wade across the water and join the crew on the beach! In the evening we all head into town for one final farewell dinner.

Day 10 – Good Bye!
Sadly all good things must come to an end! For those of you who booked their onward journey, this is where we must say our goodbyes. The rest of us jump in a minivan back to Puerto Princesa where we finish our trip. We also help with any onward travel. Want to visit Cebu? Party on the white sand beaches in Boracay? CEBU 5 DAY WHALE SHARKS & WATERFALLS

Welcome to Cebu City, Queen City of the Philippines, known to many as the second capital of the country. The Island of Cebu is known the world over for world class waterfalls, incredible diving and snorkelling and acts as a central transport hub to other areas in The Philippines. Conde Nast Traveler Magazine named Cebu the 4th best island destination in the world, so you know its going to be phenomenal. Your personal driver, will be waiting for you in the airport as you land to transfer you directly to your hostel in the bustling centre of the city. Once you get there, you can take the rest of the day to explore this wonderful city and treat yourself to some famous Cebu Lechon!
Gorge yourself on the huge breakfast in the guesthouse before meeting your driver outside who will transfer you to the Ceres South Bus Station. Hop on the plush air conditioned bus, sit back and relax whilst enjoying the stunning Cebu scenery as you whizz through its centre. After a couple of hours you’ll arrive in the town of Moalboal where your hostel will pick you up and transfer you to your room. After which, you have the chance to explore Panagsama Beach, grab a devious burger in Chilli’s or throw on a snorkel and swim with the millions of sardines swimming just off the coast, the choice is yours.
This is your free day to explore the area around Moalboal, our recommendation is to head to Kawasan Falls. This stunning 2 tiered waterfall is a popular destination for tourists around the world and always makes it onto any Philippine Travel Video. The water is powerade blue and the lush greenery to flanks the flowing whitewash make a heck of a profile picture. If you’re feeling adventurous you can book a canyoneering tour through your hostel and jump, slide and rope swing your way downstream.
Make sure you get an early night as your driver will be arriving to pick you up at 4am in the morning. The reason for this is that today is your day to swim with the biggest fish in the ocean, the whale sharks. A truly mind-blowing and unforgettable experience as you spend 30 minutes surrounded by these friendly giants just off the coast, make sure you charge that GoPro! After your swim, you’ll be directed to your breakfast spot before getting back in the car to head down the cost to Aguinid Waterfalls. Aguinid Falls is smaller version of Kawasan but nevertheless still a spectacular 5 tiered waterfall. Once you’ve finished posing for photos under the falls, your driver will then take you to your last spot, Tumalog Falls. This majestic and quiet waterfall is the perfect spot for some relaxation and reflection after a busy morning. You’ll then be transferred back to Cebu City to your original hostel where you can finally pinch yourself after a day to remember.
Xtreme will provide you with a handy Cebu city guide which you can use to aid you in your DIY tour around the City. Cebu city is one of the oldest and proudest cities in the Philippines with a rich colonial and religious history to sink your teeth into. Some of the oldest cathedrals in the country are here and prime for you to explore. Cebu is also the food capital of the country with some incredible eateries detailed on your guide, make sure you attempt to try them all! When you’re ready to leave, you’re driver will be waiting for you 2 hours before your flight at your hostel to take you to the airport. We hope you enjoyed your time in Cebu and have some incredible pictures to prove it!

BOROCAY 5 DAY PARTY PACK

Welcome to Boracay, one of the top-rated beach destinations in the world! It is known as the Ibiza of Asia, with its powdery white sand beach lined with some of the most exciting bars filled with travelers ready to party. You’ll arrive in Caticlan Airport, where you’ll be picked up and led into a bus that will take you to the Caticlan Jetty Port. From here, you will be taken to the outrigger boat that will bring you to your shuttle on Boracay Island. You’ll be dropped off by the shuttle at Second Wind Bed Bunk & Breakfast or MNL Hostel. Take this time to explore on your own and get to know your new destination!
Hop on a tricycle and make your way to Ariel’s House. Make sure to be there BEFORE 10:30AM for your pre-departure registration. At 11:15AM, you’ll go on a boat cruise on a traditional Filipino outrigger boat known as a banca beyond the shorts of Boracay. A stark contrast to the famous White Beach, you’ll see the coastline comprised of lush forests, deserted beaches, and volcanic rock. The boat ride lasts 35- 45 minutes, depending on the type of boat used, and is the perfect time to make new friends and enjoy the start of your open bar! Get your day officially started with some heart-stopping, death defying cliff diving. Huffington Post named Ariel’s Point as the perfect place to check cliff diving off your bucket list. With five different diving boards and platforms ranging from 3-15 meters, it’s not hard to believe. If you’re not yet ready for this, it’s okay. There’s a bamboo ladder and floating dock, for simply chilling out. Ariel’s Point’s protected location makes it the perfect area for kayaking along the unspoiled shoreline of Buruanga, a small coastal village on the island of Panay. Enjoy paddling to nearby deserted beaches or use your sit-on-top kayak as a mobile platform for cliff diving and nature photography. You might even encounter some flying fish or start a conversation with the local fishermen. Both single (one-person) and tandem (two-person) kayaks are available. Life jackets are provided and must be worn at all times. The beautiful seas of the Philippines are teeming with marine life. The coastline around Ariel’s Point is no exception. Clownfish, damselfish, starfish, and sea anemones are just a few of the fascinating species you might encounter during your underwater adventure. Some guests have even spotted sea turtles and dolphins visiting the area. Snorkels, masks, and life jackets are provided. Of course, you won’t go hungry! Enjoy a delicious buffet that includes fresh and traditional dishes such as grilled fish, grilled pork, barbecue chicken, longaniza sausages, pancit noodles (vegetarian), eggplant salad (vegetarian), herb potatoes (vegetarian), steamed rice (vegetarian), prawn crackers, and an assortment of fruits (vegetarian). You’ll find plenty of locals offering you a massage or a paraw (sailboat) ride, if you feel like doing a little bit more.
Time to bid farewell to your white sand party island! You’ll be picked up at Second Wind Bed Bunk & Breakfast or MNL Hostel to start your journey back to the airport. Just make sure to confirm with the receptionist at your hostel your flight details, so they can advise you on the best time that you can be picked up according to your flight. Arrival Details

You will need to fly into Manila International Airport.  Airport transfers are included in the cost of the tour on the start day of the tour only. If you arrive any earlier, you can book an extra night in the Z Hostel and make your own way. Taxis are easy to arrange from the airport.

Your tour ends in Puerto Princessa on day 10. Return airport transfer (to Manila) is not included as part of the tour.

When booking flights after the tour, we suggest booking your onwards flight to leave early evening (6pm local time) on the last day in Puerto Princesa then you have plenty of time to get to the airport from Palawan  to Manila.
The main way to get back to Manila is by flight.

 If you are flying out of El Nido airport then you can book the flight to Cebu for any time. If you are flying out of Puerto Princesa airport then it should be at 3pm or later. 
You will need to book flights for the last day of your 10 day tour to either Cebu or Boracay, depending on which add-on you have chosen.

ACCOMMODATION AT BOOT CAMP

The training can take it out of you, so to relax after a hard session you stay in comfortable accommodation. There are two options for accommodation on the Bali Fitness Bootcamp. Both options are close the beach and to everything else as well, so you have plenty of opportunities to go explore. Taxis are cheap in Bali, and there are plenty of areas of interest you to visit including temples, resorts, beaches and areas of cultural interest. Day trips can be booked through our Bali team.

Boutique Shared Villa Accommodation

With a stunning pool and a shared room in our stunning Fitness Villa you are in the midst of the action. Its a fun set up with roof top jacuzzi overlooking the ocean and a pool and communal living area on the ground floor. The villa is 150 metersthe the most stunning bay in Bali.  The perfect set up to relax, meet other bootcampers and feel right at home. This is the social hub of the bootcamp but also large and private enough to have important relax and down time.

The sleeping arrangements are based on airconditioned, shared ensuite mini dorms with max. 2 – 4 persons (mixed gender).  Airconditioning operates from 7 pm to 7 am ensuring you get a comfortable nights sleep.

Deluxe Resort Accommodation

If you do not wish to share and would like even more luxury, your fitness training will be complemented perfectly by a stay in our beautiful deluxe hotel option. Located right next to the best  beach in Bali, you can relax in between training sessions on the white sands of Jimbaran, or at the stunning pool of the hotel. The luxury deluxe option is located 5 minute walk to the training camp and is the epitome of luxury. This exclusive resort is brand new in 2016 and caters to those with higher budgets.

Complete with stunning pool and roof top lounge with unrivaled views of Jimberan bay it is a lovely place to stay if you can afford the extra expense.

The Surrounding Area

Our stunning bootcamp is set in an exclusive quieter area of Bali called Jimberan. The perfect beach with views stunning rollers, its the perfect location for a mental and physical reset. You can also venture down to the traditional markets, enjoy fine dining with a selection of lovely restaurants or sunbathe on a white sandy beach. The beach and the hotel are separated by road, and along the road, there are local Seafood Cafés.

The location is rewarded by some of the best sunsets in Bali, with temples and plenty of points of interest nearby.

 ACCOMMODATION ON 10 DAY EPIC

Your 9 nights accommodation is fully included for this part of your trip and is a combination of some awesome hostels and surf hotels. The rooms are twins or doubles and you will share with the same sex unless you specify.To make it just that much better, all the spots you stay in have a pool. Which is always great to chill and relax by after a fun day of exploring.

The camp is located in Jimbaran right by the beach. This is located on a massive Bay with a white sandy beach, 15 minutes from the airport. It’s away from the typically touristy areas, and a little bit quieter which is more conducive to fitness training and relaxation. Yet at the same time, it is easily accessible to some of the hotspots and more lively areas. 
You have nothing to worry about, our expert Group Leaders will help you book everything you need in order to get to where you’re heading, whether that be on to some more islands or back to the airport to catch a flight.
If you arrive a day early, accommodation is not included. Check in is only on Sunday. Airport pick up is included, all day at anytime but only on Sunday. If you arrive early you have to arrange your own transfer to the accommodation at the training camp.

At bootcamp, this depends on your own spending choices, but as 2 meals (breakfast and lunch) are covered per day, will not need much while you are training. Meals are not included on Sundays.

For your epic 10 day trip, We would recommend between £120 and £180 for the 10 days. Bali is very good value for money, so it really depends on how much you want to spend.

Yes! 90% of our clients who join the boot camp and our group trips are solo travellers. In fact far from this being a problem, we would encourage people to do so. It’s a very social environment and you will make friends very quickly.

High season is the dry season. Between April and September Bali is typically busier than usual. While temperatures are pretty constant all year round, it’s rainfall that can make the difference between the months.

The rainy season, which usually falls between December and Jan you can expect downpours happening mainly at night. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be constantly raining all the time, you can have some heavy rains, and then it is sunny again. It’s also cooler to train during rainy season. Can be more humid, however the training facility is airconditioned and the rooms are also airconditioned at night time. The boot camp runs all year, come rain or shine anyway.

You will need to fly into Bali Denpasar International Airport. After booking, you are asked to provide your flight details and we will meet you in arrivals outside of the airport. We will then transfer you to your accommodation by taxi. 
Our local rep can help you book a taxi, it is a short 45min ride from Jimbaran to Canggu.

What Will my Time in Indonesia Look like?

It’s all about surf, with daily surf lessons, surf safaris and surf guiding. Every Sunday we have a ‘restday’, on these days you’re free to do whatever you want,
maybe even more surfing!

During your stay here we want to make sure you become a well-rounded surfer, so we offer as much support and advice as we can. To assure this we make use of the amazing waves that Indonesia has on offer. We will take you on surf safaris and even offer weekly surf video analysing evenings.

One of the best ways to learn to surf is not only by doing it as much as possible but also seeing yourself surf and to be able to understand potential mistakes you’re making. So during your training, you will be filmed and photographed a lot so we can work on your personal development.

Accommodation

Our boutique-style surf villas with 2 plunge pools offer high standard bedrooms with A/C & private bathrooms, you will share with max. 2 other surfers.  It’s a great place to hang out after your surf session and share your Bali adventures.

There are several terrific communal areas, and one of the best positioned yoga studios out there with views over the surrounding greenery.

There are 2 accommodation types to choose from:

  • SHARED ROOM – Flatscreen TV | Closet | Safe | Mini Fridge | Wifi -The shared room is a 30 m2 quadruple bedroom with en-suite bathroom. One of the two shared rooms has two single beds and one bunk bed. The other one has four single beds. Both rooms have a private bathroom equipped with a toilet, shower and towels. A ceiling fan and air-conditioner are installed to keep your room at the right temperature at all times. The room contains a wardrobe for your clothes and a fridge. Free Wi-Fi is available in your room and throughout the house.
  • DELUXE ROOM – Private bathroom | Bathtub | Flatscreen TV | Closet | Safe | Mini Fridge | Wifi

Meals

Only breakfast is included while you are staying with us, but you can get a nice (and cheap) meal on every corner of every street. Meals are about 3 to 8 GBP per meal in a restuarant. For streetfood you pay even less, and its amazing!

Breakfast is a choice of:

  • Pancakes with palm sugar syrup, bacon & fruits
  • Eggs scrambled, fried or omelette (with bacon and/or grilled veggies if you like)
  • Exotic fruit salad with yoghurt & granola
  • Local, Nasi or Mie Goreng with egg
  • Juice and or tea, coffee, cappuccino

The Indonesian currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). 1 euro is approximately 15000 Rupiah.

The safest way to travel in Bali is by taxi.  Scooter is the main transport and fastest way to get around. Walking is possible but not very ideal. Experience is required for driving a scooter, and we do not recommend it as its super busy and dangerous.

Yes you can. We offer insurance for just 25 euro a week that covers any damage or loss to our equipment (surfboards & leashes) while surfing.

Bali is a developed island. It is not necessary to take Rupiah from your home country. There are plenty of ATM`s around. In the airport, you will definitely find 2 or 3 ATM`s.  A good starting amount is 1 Million Rupiah that is equal to about 65 euro.

Don`t forget to take out your card from the ATM. The ATM provides money first then usually it will ask for another transaction before it will return your card.

Bali surfing conditions are excellent all year round! One of the best surfing locations in the world and offers year-round the best surf you will find on the planet. If we have to give an indication when the swell is absolutely world class, then it is during the dry-season months: May till late October. Basically for all levels of surfer Bali is good all year round.

The weather in Bali is very consistent temperature wise and offers a lot of beach time. It is day and night warm with temperatures always above 23C – 26C during the night and day above 26C to 32C. Bali knows two seasons: Dry-Season and Wet-Season. Dry-Season: May till October and Wet-Season: November till April. Wet season is the hottest time of the year as well and is still good for Holidays. The rain will feel like an outdoor lukewarm shower. It hardly rains all day and the rain starts usually early in the morning and late in the afternoon. During the day it is mostly hot and sunny. Also in wet-season, there are weeks that there is hardly any rain at all. So Bali offers year-round good weather conditions with a very very nice temperature throughout the year.

Dengue fever is one of the most common mosquito-borne diseases in Indonesia. These mosquitoes commonly breed in warm, humid weather and in stagnant water. Unlike most mosquitoes, dengue-causing mosquitoes bite during the day. Dengue infection along with other acute viral illness pose similar features: fever, bone and joint pain with or without skin rash. There is no vaccine for Dengue fever and there is no cure either. Dengue Fever can be prevented with precautions such as mosquito nets at bedtime and mosquito repellents.

This is just advice, please consult your Doctor at home. The recommended vaccines for travelling to Indonesia based on the Centers for Disease Control are: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, Typhoid, Rabies, Tetanus, and Yellow Fever (only if you come from a Yellow Fever region). Ideally, you should get the vaccinations 4-6 weeks before travel, as some vaccinations require multiple doses and an immune reaction time.

If you are already in Bali we have several pick-up and drop-off options. If you are in Kuta or Seminyak our driver will pick you up or drop you off for free. If you want to be picked up or dropped off in Ubud the price is 250.000 IDR, the price for a pick-up or drop-off in Sanur is 150.000 IDR. If you are in a different part of Bali you will have to organise your own transport.

 As soon as the sun comes up you can get a board and go surfing, although most have breakfast between 8-10. After breakfast, our instructors take you to the best breaks in our minivans,  that’s where you will have your surf lessons for the day.

After the lessons you can get a board and surf again, never go alone, there are plenty of other travellers to join you!

Become a Kite God and experience true freedom!

If one word sums up what it is like to be a Kite surfer that word would have to be freedom. When you are hooked into a power kite on the open water with wind propelling you at great speeds it’s an amazing feeling.

Then combine the ability to jump, and use the power of the kite to give you amazing hang time you can pretty much fly as well. Kite surfing is like skiing or snowboarding, but more forgiving. But there’s a lot of skill involved in being able to master the moves.

Fortunately, it’s not difficult it just takes practice, a little bit of ability and the right instruction. Mostly it takes an opportunity because it’s weather dependent you need the ability to jump in the water as soon as the wind is on. This is what this course gives you. Located right by the sea, weather permitting you can go kiting every day, improve your kite surfing ability and come home with an amazing new addiction.

Be warned though, kite surfing is a lifestyle. Once you have the bug, nothing will be the same. You will crave the wind like you are possessed. Because with the wind, comes the ability to at least something so fun, it will make good days great days.

It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to become really good at something. But given enough time, and the opportunity to do so, perfecting a skill is an awesome achievement. Apply this to kite surfing and you got the ingredients for something amazing.

The Lifestyle

This is not just a Kite Surf course. Yes of course is fantastic instruction, and there’s more on that below, but signing up to this program is investing in your summer.

The location of the kitesurf camp is unrivaled. You will live right by the sea, 10 m from the beach, 50 m from the kitesurf channel. That gives you the ability to go kite surfing every day. And should the wind not come in, you can go and explore the bay on stand-up paddles. The kite surf house is located in a national park, in a truly beautiful location.

The sandy shallow bay of Pollenca, stretches out in front of the house. It’s a large bay, with aquamarine water which is quite shallow for several hundred meters providing the perfect conditions to learn to Kite Surf.  The water is warm, and the views are stunning. Dramatic mountains stretch to the north, and Majorca’s best beaches are within a short distance from where you are staying.

In the evenings you are a short walk from the bars and restaurants of Port of Pollenca town  See can go and hit the nightlife with your fellow kite surfers. If a full day on the water has knackered you out, we have an amazing chillout area on the roof of the beach health. Xtreme Gap Year has a beach house in Majorca, where we run this kite surf programme. You will stay in a shared apartment right by the beach in a beautiful National Park. Based on quad share.

Shared bathroom, lounge and outdoor chillout zones on the roof.

ACCOMMODATION

The Shared Villa

Most people opt for the standard shared villa option. Based on Quad share dorms. The villa is located right next to the training areas, so rolling out of bed is easy.

It is also a haven of relaxation when you are not training. Equipped with a rooftop terrace with views of the ocean.

Kiting together and living together is a very bonding experience, it’s a great way to make friends. Don’t worry about needing your own space also. The villa is sufficiently big with plenty of chillout areas for you to catch some quiet time to.

Due to the nature of the Kitesurf Camp, people do not tend to have late-night the villa. You will be exhausted! So you can expect to get a good nights sleep in fan cooled rooms.

Itinerary

Sunday Arrival Day.

Arriving into Palma de Mallorca the transfer to the local town of Alcudia takes approximately one hour on the A32 bus service (direct from the airport). A member of our friendly team will be waiting to meet you off the bus and transfer you to the beach house on arrival. You can arrive at any time on Sunday and check in after 2pm. After checking in, you are free to chill at the villa, hit the beach, or do some stand-up paddle. A group orientation and introduction and getting to know you session will take place at 5 o’clock at the  villa.

Monday Intro Day & Start Training

As with most days we start off with an early morning sun rise yoga session to stretch your muscles. Sessions take place on the roof terrace overlooking the ocean, National Park and Sierra Tramontana mountain range.

Then time for a healthy breakfast consisting of fruit, yoghurt, smoothie options, muesli, and eggs. Breakfast is served from 830 to 915 on the roof terrace.

Stand Up Paddle

Depending on the water conditions we have a daily stand-up paddle session. The bay of Pollenca has crystal calm flat water in the morning and is the perfect place to do some stand-up paddle due to it being relatively shallow and exceptionally beautiful. The thermal wind doesn’t tend to kick in until around 1 o’clock that’s great to start your mornings by getting out on the water when it calm and serene.

Buffet style healthy lunch served on the roof terrace or in the garden. Stock up on your carbs as you’re going to be burning a lot of energy on the water.

Kite Surfing

And it’s on! Thermal wind kicks in pretty much every single day in the summer which means you can be out on the water most days. If you have never learnt to kite surf before, you will have a nine-hour in water course spread out over a couple of days. After that it’s all about practice so you will be out riding on the water improving your kite surf abilities.

Kiting takes place right in front of the villa we are merely a couple of metres away from the launch point.

Excursions:

Every Wednsday and Thursday we take excursions which you are welcome to join.

For example on Wednesday there is an excursion to the beautiful Roman town of Pollenca where you can visit a local market.

On Friday afternoons you have the opportunity to do a nature trek, this lasts approximately 2 ½ hours taking you through a beautiful valley, down to a secluded beach.

Saturday
Early risers are able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise SUP session, or perhaps you may prefer a lie in. After a healthy breakfast at 8:30 AM on Saturday, it’s excursion day!

There are a range of options for excursions depending on the preference of the group. Some of these excursions are free and others incur a local charge:

Some of the excursion options include:

  • Speed boat hire: (Minimum for persons 100 EUR per person) includes captain, fuel and boat hire 4 hours)
  • Formentor Beach we catch a glass bottom boat across to one of the most beautiful beaches. The journey takes 25 minutes Puerto Pollensa to Formentor the views of the bay along the way are impressive. You can get a closer look at the lighthouse at Cap de Formentor and La Fortaleza, one of Spain’s most impressive estates featured in the bbcs night manager. It is an open ticket, so you can choose the timetable you prefer to come back, so the choice of options is flexible and you are not in a rush.
  • Formentor look out. Head up to a beautiful world heritage site with dramatic clifftop views.
  • Water Park Excursion (entrance fee not included)
  • Pirate Boat Experience: five hours exploring the bays beaches and cliffs of Majorca, on a pirate cruiser, includes snorkelling equipment and lunch. With pickup and drop-off from the villa. €60 per person

Sunday Check Out Day
Sunday is rest day, if you are checking out you will have to vacate your room by 10, but you are welcome to chill by the villa if you have a later flight. Say good bye to your new friends and hello to maintaining a new healthier better you!

Locations Of Activities

While “the hub” of the Kite Camp is set at the beach house. You will be given a bicycle on check-in, which will be your mode of transport for the majority of the camp. The furthest distance you would have to cycle would be 10 minutes and approximately 3 km to get from the beach house to the local town centre of town. The area is well connected with bike paths and is completely flat, along the ocean promanade. Should you wish to go to the local town by taxi, it’s six euros (shared with a maximum of four others).

Learning to Kite Surf what is it like?

Talk to anyone who’s into kite surfing and you will find out how enthusiastic and impassioned they are about this amazing sport. It’s easy to think, looking at some of the acrobatic and near death-defying moves that good kite surfers can pull off that is an almost impossible sport to get good at. Not true. Kite surfing is like anything it takes practice but anyone can learn. You build it up in stages from the basics mastering techniques until you become intermediate through to advanced.

It requires time on the water, and of course wind! But this is why this program is so good. With Majorca’s thermal wind, pretty much guaranteeing to blow every single day throughout the summer months you are out on the water every day. You have the time to perfect the basics, and start mastering intermediate techniques like jumps, transitions and some seriously cool moves.

Once you become a kite surfer, and you are up and running on the water it becomes highly addictive. The sheer freedom of movement on the water gives you a taste of something that is hard to give up.

Kite surfing is quite forgiving on the body, because most of the weight and force is taken by the harness, which means you can spend hours on the water without getting overtired. It’s a sport that gives you speed, the ability to fly, jump and buzz over the water like no other sport can.

How are the days structured?

Majorca benefits from thermal wind in the summer. This is basically a seabreeze that rushes in as the land heats up over the day. Locally this is known as “Embat” and has been a constant since the island was 1st populated thousands of years ago.

Because it takes time for the land to heat up the thermal wind doesn’t kick in until around 1 o’clock. So mornings are easy at the kite Academy. Get up when you are ready, and have breakfast. You are able to enjoy your breakfast on the roof terrace with 360° views of the kite beach, mountains a world heritage site and the largest National Park in Majorca all around. It’s a truly terrific spot. If you want to get active before hitting the water, you can take a mountain biking go explore the natural reserve. Most people will take time to chill in the morning, brush up on some theory to fix in their mind the techniques they want to try out that day.

Then come 1230 time to gear up. We had down to the launch channel which is located conveniently just 200 m from the house.

You will inflate your kites, connect your lines, do your safety checks and then it’s time on the water. The wind will blow solidly until about 4 o’clock, sometimes later but 3 hours a day on the water is more than enough to see some serious progression.

Come 6 o’clock you will be back at the house for dinner, with a debrief, discussing what you learned that day before having a well deserved dinner on the roof terrace.

The evenings are free to do as you wish. You are very close to the bars and restaurants of Port de Pollenca and Alcudia, or you can chill catch a movie on our large outdoor cinema, and just enjoy the local environment.

Here’s how it normally goes. When you start learning, you usually have around 12 hours of instruction which is a beginner kite surfing course. The 1st half a day, let’s say around 3 hours you learn all about how to set up the kite, all about the safety systems how the bar (the control system) works. The idea is to get you comfortable with the equipment, so you can then move into the water safely. Once you’re done with the safety training, you learn how to launch the kite, and you are then in the water without a board learning how to steer and control the kite. This takes usually around 4 to 5 hours depending how quickly you pick it up. It’s very much like driving a car, at 1st you don’t really know all the gears and levers do, but after a while it becomes 2nd nature. So the learning part of the course is designed to get this into your head. Once you are comfortable with the kite control, and the instructors also comfortable with you, you can then do body dragging. This is where you are moving through the water using the power of the kite without the board attached to you. This is where you 1st start to get a feel for the power of the kite and how it can move you through the water. Body dragging does not take that long, but it is designed to get used to the sensation of moving in the water.

After body dragging comes probably the most exciting bit: Water start. Water start is basically your 1st attempt at getting up on the board using the power of the kite. How long this takes is really down to the individual, some people pick it up straightaway (well within the hour) other people take quite a long time to get the feel for it. Once you do crack it, you will be up and moving and then it’s all about practice.

The 1st time you successfully water start, it’s a huge mix of sensations. It’s usually very exciting followed very quickly by a feeling of my God how do I stop this thing!

Once you are up and moving in the water, due to the nature of the sport you tend to be on your own. So it really is just like learning to drive, you have to keep practising.

Frequently Asked Questions

This programme is open to people with all levels of kite surfing ability. That includes if you’ve never even seen a kite surf in your entire life! Kite surfing is a remarkably progressive sport. No matter how long you’ve been practising, you can always improve. It’s time on the water that really makes the difference. You can go from complete novice to beginner in around 6 hours. After several weeks of constant practice you will be intermediate. But here’s the issue. Due to the sport being heavily dependent on the wind, often people don’t have the time to progress. The beautiful thing about this course is you are living right by the kite surf channel, when the wind is in which is pretty much a daily occurrence in June due to the thermal winds kicking up in Majorca, it on. You will have plenty of time to perfect your kite surf ability.

Majorca has 3 kite surf beaches. The most popular is in the bay of Pollenca on the north-east of the island. This is exactly where you will be located. The Beach house’s front line, you are just a couple of metres from the ocean. When your kite surfing day is done, there’s plenty to do in the area as well.

If you have your own kite surf equipment you are more than welcome to bring it. However this is not necessary as all the equipment is included. Majorca during the summertime operates on thermal winds. So we use kites around 14 m with big boards for the perfect setup.

We will collect you from the Alcudia and transfer you to the beach house. There is a direct bus transfer from the airport which takes approximately 1 hour to Alcudia. You will need to make your own way to Alcudia on this bus service.

All food is included, Gappers take it in turns to cook. We have full cooking facilities at the apartment both indoors and outdoors. Breakfast consists of bread, eggs cereals on a self-serve basis. Lunch and dinner will be healthy filling and nutritious and consists of Pasta, salads bbqs ect

Surprisingly not. It’s not easy, but it’s certainly not difficult. It’s a bit like learning to drive the car. Once you know how to do it, safely it becomes 2nd nature. But then it’s about improving your skills, and that requires time on the water. Something that you will have loads of on this course.

If you want to go for an instructor Exam

Kite surf development courses is a great when they are done over several months, as you will probably need 4 to 6 months of practice prior to being able to take your instructor exam. If you are out on the water every day, you can probably cut this time down to about 3 months or 12 weeks, but I would really give yourself more time just to get as much practice as possible. The exam part is a financial commitment and you wouldn’t want to fail it, plus you need the necessary experience yourself if you’re going to be put in a position of responsibility to instruct.

The Xtreme Gap course is a great opportunity to test the waters to see if the above is for you.

 

Wind Conditions

The wind varies every week but in general the wind is quite consistent. In Mallorca we benefit from thermal wind which means the land heats up and the cooler sea air pushes in. While this is great because it means you can get out kiting most days, it means the winds are not that strong. So mostly we use size 14 kites and large boards.

If you’re going to bring your own gear, we recommend you bring a 14 to 17, for a 10 to 12 slightly windy days. Kite gear rental is available locally as well.

The best wind for this spot comes in from the north.
