Tropical Fitness Bootcamp Full Details

untitled-201593_1024x683The Thailand fitness boot camp is suitable for all ages and all fitness levels. The one unifying goal of people attending the camp to get fit or fitter and have a great time in a beautiful location doing something healthy. It combines ultra luxurious accommodation with world-class fitness training at incredible prices.

Arrival day Sunday: You will be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation by a Xtreme Gap representative. Settle in relax after a long flight and sleep well. The next day walk to the fitness boot camp located close by where you will have your introduction session.

You make your way to the reception of the training camp, and our rep will introduce you to the trainers, give you a training schedule and give you your vouchers for the meal plan (2 meals a day Monday to Saturday). The meal plan starts on the day of the introduction. You just need to go there in your training gear, shorts, sneakers, t-shirt and a towel and water. The water you can buy at the resort or the training camp.

Motivating. With  Time To Achieve Those Results.

Many people struggle to get motivated into taking their health and fitness seriously. Think about it, who has the time to hit the gym properly or go for a run in our busy lives?

When you do get round to it, where is the motivation? The great thing about the fitness Boot Camp: You can take time out of your hectic schedule to do something that is great for your well-being. Even better you know you will be supported every step of the way.

What can the Tropical Fitness Bootcamp do for you?

Everyone is different, with different goals. Some people are unfit others have a good base level of fitness, either way, you will benefit from spending some time training here, and you will see remarkable improvements.

You will be impressed by what you can achieve.

resized (2)It is a motivating environment. 90% of people at the camp travel there on their own which leads to a social and supportive atmosphere because everyone has there with the same goal. Coupled with superb trainers, scheduled classes and all the equipment you could need, there is nothing stopping you.

You will be amazed at what you can achieve, because with group training sessions slacking off is less of an option, and the exercise is quite addictive once you get into it. The included meal plan, two meals a day from Monday to Saturday, provided you with healthy and delicious food helping you to tone up, lose weight or build muscle extremely quickly.

We have had clients who have gone from 1 week to 12 weeks, and the feedback is consistently excellent with great results.

An Incredible Location

Relaxation Is Just As Important As The Training.

This is a holiday as much as a bootcamp. The training can take it out of you, so to relax after a hard session you stay in a super luxurious resort. Set in a peaceful Thai tropical garden, with two beautiful pools, and your own boutique villa style room all ensuite (or a suite if you choose Deluxe or Luxury), you have the perfect blend of healthy fitness workouts and complete relaxation at the end of the day. See the accommodation section for more.

All you need is on your doorstep.

The location is superb, in Phuket, towards the south centre of the island the camp is located away from the touristic mess of Phuket’s livelier locations. Situated on a quiet road, under the watchful gaze of Phuket’s most famous landmark the Big Buddha there are lots of nice little restaurants, spas and restaurants to enjoy.

The Training

World Class Crossfit Style  Training. Strength, Conditioning & Weightloss.

It is the training that sets up camp apart, not just the quantity but also the quality of the workouts really get results. With an impressive roster of trainers, we are constantly improving our fitness routines incorporating the latest methods and techniques.

On average there can be 50-100 people training at the camp, from all over the world and it is not unusual to be working out with professional athletes and fitness professionals. As well as clients who are on holiday and want to get in shape, as well as people of poor fitness levels who want to learn how to improve their physique. With so many people coming and training the camp, naturally, the latest fitness techniques are incorporated and developed in the training programmes. With just one month spent training at the Xtreme Gap Fitness Boot Camp, we can confidently state that you can develop so much further than six months with a personal trainer back home. Fitness results are really delivered.

Personal Training Session and Group Sessions.

Xtreme Gap Year BootcampOnce per week you will have a mentor session with a professional personal trainer,  and is well placed to advise nutrition, techniques and give you a roadmap during your stay to get the most out of your workouts.

As well as the personal training session, there are group training sessions, Monday to Saturday, with Gym access available seven days a week (But mostly Sunday is taken off for a well-deserved rest).

While there is plenty of training activities included, perhaps even more than most can handle, there is the option to book extra personal training sessions locally (Approx £45 per session), and you can even try other fitness activities like Muay Thai training (2 sessions a week are already included).

So what’s the catch? Well, nothing really, except you have to arrange your own flight to Thailand, you fly to Phuket which is very well connected internationally or via Bangkok and you need to make the effort in training of course! Just book early online and we will get you all prepared for your trip.

Fitness Bootcamp Beach Training Excursions.

xtremefitnessboot2014-5003The group training sessions are very diverse; we like to mix it up to keep it interesting and there are a couple of training sessions that take place every week away from the camp.

Every Saturday the whole crew hit one of the beautiful beaches and do an early workout. The perfect way to round of the week of intense training and enjoy paradise. Here is where we like to show our guest just exactly what makes this island such a beautiful place to train. Not only do we offer great beach training classes but we also like to make sure you know all the best places for your daily runs, hikes and general relaxation.

The Beach Boot Camp days are legendary, and they are probably the toughest training sessions throughout the week. The reward is you get to jump in the crystal clear sea after a one-hour session!

Our client feedback consistently mentions how surprised they have been at their progress and improvement on these two fitness excursions days. You will be surprised by what you are capable of.

Everything Is Made Easy.

After booking, we will set you up with an online buddy list so you can chat to other people going to the camp, or people already training at the camp before you even set off.

We are of course here to answer all your questions before you go and before booking, but after booking, we also include a very detailed predeparture pack for you to familiarise yourself with the trip before you go, and we will help you every step of the way making your travel arrangements as simple as possible.

Easy Arrival.

Thailand fitness bootcampOn arrival in Phuket, we will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your resort. As most of our guest travel solo, this really makes it easy when you arrive in Thailand for the first time. We recommend a Sunday arrival although we can be flexible (request trip notes for further details on the accommodation).

The Training Buddy List

Prior to arrival, you will have access to a facebook group of fellow bootcampers, so you will already know people at the camp and people arriving the same time as you. Makes integration even easier. It’s super supportive and a nice way to start. One of the best things about the camp is the atmosphere, most travel with us solo, so there is a very welcoming and social side to the camp.

Full Intro On Day One

On the first day of your training, our Xtreme Gap rep will give you a full introduction, introduce you to the trainers, show you around the camp and help you meet other Xtreme Gappers, and also talk you through the meal plan and training timetable (more on that below).

The rep is your first point of contact should you have any issues in Thailand. Perhaps you just want to know where to go to get your laundry done, where to have a good spa treatment or get the inside information on which restaurant has the best Thai red curry in town, all you have to do is ask. Everything is made really easy for you, allowing you to just focus on having a great time, getting fit and having a great holiday.

Also on the first training day (Monday) there is an afternoon nutrition seminar. We gladly go over your goals and help you with your meal plan.

How long should you go for?

Most people go for 2 to 6 weeks, due to time constraints with work, and two weeks is enough to start to see some good results. The main benefit you will take home the knowledge of how to maintain and improve your fitness back home along with a solid foundation or fitness.

Of course, you also have had an amazing holiday in Thailand as well, and it is not that often you can say you’ve come back from holiday feeling better than when you left!

Short-term guests will receive an amazing kick start to their health and fitness routine.

Many who travel with us use this as a kick-start to their travels as well, after all, if you are hitting the beaches in Thailand, you want to look and feel good!

Why Not Just Head To Thailand And Join A Gym?

Simply put: you won’t get the same experience. Due to our large groups, and the fact most people join on their own, it’s a very welcoming supportive environment which you would not get in the same way in other gyms. With our programme you get to know everyone, you hang out with them, you socialise with them and train together.

It’s work hard play hard. Just joining a normal gym you go there you workout, you go back to your hotel you don’t really meet everyone. It’s about the entire experience as well as the training.

Really want to get impressive results? Go long-term.

If you are really serious about making this a life changing trip, and completely give yourself a physical overhaul, to improve your health and fitness the way you look at the way you feel that you should definitely consider joining the long term.

Our clients who stay 8 to 12 weeks really feel the benefit and the transformation can be incredible. An improvement in your fitness levels is guaranteed, and spending 12 weeks devoting yourself to improving your health is surprisingly cheaper than spending the same amount of time at home.

Great Value Compared To Other Thailand Fitness Boot Camps.

The Fitness Boot Camp is incredibly good value, and when you compare the prices to similar boot camps and considering the quantity and quality of the training combined with a luxurious stay in a boutique resort, it becomes unsurprising that the majority of people who book revisit the camp at half the price of other fitness boot camps. It is little wonder it is so popular.

graphis_ufschedule_2thiland_optimised

Note: Timetable is subject to change.

Early Morning

If you wish, you can start with a good stretch in the morning by joining the Yoga class for an hour before the ‘real’ work begins.

Boot Camp

The boot camp training consists of 6 days a week Mon-Sat high cardio (fat burning) in the morning, using highly advanced techniques (request trip notes for further details and videos about this). These classes vary from Strenght & Conditioning, Crosstraining, Bodyfit, Spinning and Boxercise. They are designed to increase your fitness fast and efficiently. The groups typically have people training with a moderate physical condition and peak physical condition; this works well as the exercises are modified depending on your fitness levels and ability, so no one is left behind. The indoor gym is open on Sundays for those who want to train on the day off.

Open Matt Sessions

The whole camp is at your disposal to do your own workout. Use all the equipment the camp offers like battle ropes, assault course, med ball, torsonater, Olympic weightlifting bars with plates you can drop and a bunch of free weights so you can do your WOD (Workout of the Day) by yourself or team up with some of the other xtreme gappers.

Olympic Weightlifting

The sport of Olympic Weightlifting involves participants completing two separate lifts; the snatch and the clean and jerk. In Olympic Weightlifting class you will learn how to perform these two lifts. Performing this type of exercises will help with increasing power, speed, flexibility and strength.

The class is recommended for those who have little or no experience with these lifts. Coaches will put a heavy emphasis on obtaining proper form and execution of these lifts before you start to really increase the weight used in these exercises.

Don’t let the term Olympic weightlifting put you off, this is a multi-purpose workout that will improve your whole body and the way it performs. Once perfected it will make other exercise much easier. Olympic Weightlifting also has a major Neurological benefit.

 S&C (strength and conditioning)

Strength and Conditioning at our bootcamp is more than just your average fitness class! You will learn the exercise techniques that will lay the foundation for future training and transform your athletic ability and the way to push yourself hard beyond your limits. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced athlete: this training system will develop power, endurance, speed, agility, core strength. It will enable you to become more flexible. Not only will you perform better and remain injury free, but resistance training is also scientifically proven to promote weight loss.

Strength and Conditioning sessions run Mon-Fri afternoons at 5pm so that you can make the most of the weather here and chill a bit by the pool in the afternoon. This is a very good time to train as the heat drops, and the wind picks up to cool the sweat off your body, this helps to keep you motivated while training.

To keep our Strength and Conditioning sessions interesting, we constantly vary the format and emphasize a range of resistance exercise techniques and equipment to ensure no session is ever repeated exactly. Class intensity will be high, with all exercises demonstrated by our expert coaches to ensure correct posture and form so that you get the best results.

Beach training

Every Saturday the whole crew hit a beautiful beach and do an early workout. The perfect way to round of the week of intense training and enjoy paradise. Here is where we like to show our guest just exactly what makes this such a beautiful place to train. However, when coming to such a tropical place you can’t miss out on the great beach training programme we have for you. Submit your booking form and we will come back to you within 24 hours to confirm. Once we have issued you your confirmation invoice you are then good to book your flights into Phuket.

When should you go?

Whenever you like! It starts every Sunday. In our experience, the cheapest time to fly is between mid-April and October. This is a traditionally low season. The price of the Boot Camp remains the same throughout the year, however, this can seriously affect the price of flights. So if you are on a budget consider coming during those months.

Travelling alone is no problem it’s a very social environment.

Titan Beach-2015181_1024x683As we mentioned most people who attend the camp, are independent travellers and arrive at the camp on their own. If you are concerned about travelling solo, don’t be. There is such a social atmosphere at the camp, and it is a supportive environment that everyone gets to know each other very quickly.

We set you up on our buddy list system before you go (to chat online with other people attending the camp, and we promise you will make really good new friends, (serious physical exercise in a group can be quite a bonding experience we assure you!)

So really it does not take long for people to get to know one another.

While two meals a day are included in the meal plan, you are free to have dinner where ever you like, which tends to be very social.

People come from all over to train at our camp, so expect to meet new friends from all over the world and actually broaden your horizons and extend your connections at the same time.

The fact that most people travel there alone, also adds to the motivation factor, because everyone is there to succeed in their fitness goals, so everyone encourages and pushes each other to do more.

Location & Activities.

Thai fitness bootcampYou can expect great weather, fabulous food and exciting environment. Lots of culture and exciting day trips to be had. The training camp is about a 10 min drive from the beach, (taxis are cheap) there are temples, spas, and numerous activities like elephant trekking, diving, snorkelling, trekking and you can even head out to Phi Phi for some to die for beaches.

You can’t go to Thailand without trying a Thai massage as well, and after a few days training you might just want one! There are ample spa facilities in the vicinity of your accommodation, so it is very easy to reward yourself with a bit of pampering after all of your hard efforts with your training.

Request trip notes (on the right and we will send you further information on some other things you can do there.)

Visas.

You can enter Thailand on a 28 day Visa exemption if arriving by air, so for our clients staying just four weeks or under there is no need to arrange a Visa. If you intend to stay longer, you will need to pre-arrange a Visa, after booking we can send you all the information you need to do this, and our partners can even take care of this for you.

Booking Process.

The booking process is relatively straightforward, but please note spaces to fill up so we advise booking well ahead, last-minute bookings can occasionally be taken, but we do need at least ten days notice. Having said that we can rarely guarantee you space if you book last-minute, so please contact us if you want to make a last-minute booking.

To book all you have to do is submit your booking form, we will then check availability and send you your confirmation invoice. You can take this to the bank to pay (no charge), or pay online to a UK account, or you can pay online with PayPal (there is a 5% charge for this option).

If you are travelling within 12 weeks, you will need to pay the full amount. If you are travelling later than 12 weeks you only need to secure your place with £200 deposit, then pay the balance 12 weeks before departure giving you plenty of time to save flights and spending money.

So for only £200, you can make a commitment to yourself to get fit and healthy, tone up and feel incredible you just need to submit your booking form. Don’t think too long about it, as spaces to fill up so get it in early.

Trip Frequently Asked Questions.

People come to the camp with lots of different personal fitness goals, men and women, super athletes and people seriously out of shape! While most people that join are of average fitness, none are by the time they leave, so depending on the time you have to devote to your body and personal health, the results can be impressive. Don ´t be surprised to find professional body builders rubbing shoulders with Pro athletes and people wanting to lose weight in a supportive training environment.
The average age of the participants is between 20 and 35, but there are quite some over 35 that train at the camp. There could be staying up to 100 people at the camp, so you will find like minded people for sure.

Lean Option

For those on a tight budget yet still wanting to join the Thailand fitness bootcamp, we have the lean option. Overall it’s a superfit trimmed version of the standard package where you stay in a four or six bed dorm and have all of the group training access available in the standard option.

There is a saving of approximately 30% on the standard price. This means you would have to buy your own meals (easily done in the nearby cafes and restaurants near the Boot Camp) and add on personal training sessions and mid-size sessions plus external excursions should you want them but this can all be easily done in the resort.

Pool Access.

Clients on the lean package also have access to the swimming pool in the standard resort this is approximately 60 m away from the accommodation so you still have a great place to cool off after training.

What’s included in the new Lean package:

  • Online buddy list before travelling.
  • Predeparture information.
  • Airport pickup Phuket.
  • Acess to all training equipment and three story gym.
  • specialised strength and technique classes, five days a week .
  • Introduction orientation session by our rep.
  • All group body fitness training sessions six days a week.
  • All group weight training sessions five days a week.
  • Option for yoga sessions five days a week.
  • Obstacle course training (most mentally and physically challenging class).
  • Brand-new abs on departure!

So what do you miss out on if you book the lean package over standard?

The following is not included in the lean package but is available in the standard package

  • Nutrition seminar, standard and deluxe clients receive help creating the best meal plan for their stay.
  • Weekly personal training session one-to-one.
  • Excursions: access to beachfront runs workout sessions with transport.
  • Excursions: access to big Buddha run with transport.
  • Option to join the Thai classes two times a week
People join for 1 to 12 weeks. Some even stay up to 6 months! But even if you just have 10 days you are more then welcome to join and will notice the difference in your shape. Please note this is not your typical gap year programme, it can be undertaken by all, even on a short break to Thailand.

As a general rule everyone is different, but it depends on as much as the effort you put in when training, the techniques you use when training and the fuel you are putting in your body when you are training. The Fitness boot camp teaches you all these things and sets you on the right path to peak physical fitness.

Technique

One of the benefits of the camp is that you will be taught the proper techniques and exercises by experts (you would be amazed by how many people who do attend a gym, do an incorrect work out that is not effective and waste a lot of their time and energy, when these inefficient workout routines can be easily corrected with a little education). This is great because you will be able to take this home with you to continue once you are back from your trip.

Effort

Secondly, as there are lots of others training at the camp with the same fitness goals you will find that you end up pushing your efforts harder to reach your fitness goals. Why? Because everyone is there to support you, and it is a very encouraging atmosphere. The gym is always on your doorstep, and you are there to train, so there really is no excuse, especially when you have paid to attend the camp. There is no slacking off!

Fuel

Third, the meal plan is designed to help with weightloss and muscle mass gain. Lots of healthy, protein-rich and delicious food, of the Thai and Western variety.

It is incredibly easy to eat healthily here and we will cater to your nutritional requirements. You won’t see any processed foods here; it’s all freshly cooked and they use the best quality ingredients, it´s lean, clean and delicious. During your consultation, we will discuss and recommend the ideal nutrition plan to run alongside your training. In the programme, 2 meals per day Mon-Sat are included.

So how long is the ideal time to go for? Hard to say, we would suggest people start seeing results in as little as the first week, but real visible results come after about 2-3 weeks of continuous training. Some people go for months and really make a dramatic transformation.

Tailored nutritional advice can be provided by personal trainers during your one to one with a lot of experience in providing the correct diet matching to your personal fitness goals. This is backed up by a specially designed healthy eating menu. If you need a more tailored personal nutrition plan, we are also able to provide one for you at extra cost. This will involve measuring your body fat and optimising your calorie intake to complement your training. Please ask us prior to booking additional nutrition options.

The gym at the Thailand Fitness Bootcamp is brand-new for 2016. Includes all you need to work on strength and conditioning training: hammer strength benches, curl bench and bar, incline, squat rack, sit-up benches, 3 racks of dumbbells, stationary bikes, Nautilus machine with pull down, seated row, leg press, and 4 full sets of kettlebells which are highly regarded for hardcore weightlifting workouts and plenty of plate weights to accommodate several weight-lifters at the same time. You have Unlimited access to the gym and there are always fitness trainers are able to advise you and guide you throughout your workouts.

At the training camp you are a 40 minutes taxi ride away from Phuket town and 40 minutes from the airport.

Phuket has a tropical monsoon climate. It is warm all year round, but the two periods of April-May and September-October are the hot months. The September-October period is also the wet. The best time to visit Phuket is during the cool monsoon season, from November through March. Then it isn’t so humid, and the cool breezes keep it comfortable. The average temperature is around 75F to 89F (24C to 32C).

The Thai new year is celebrated on the 13 and 14th of April! it’s an amazing event, waterfest!

We have classes at 11.00 and 19.00 (times can change) for the customers who do want to get in a bit of training. The missed out meals will be served before and after Songkran.

The beaches are about 6km from the camp. The best way to get there is by bike, scooter or taxi. There are always more people going on the weekends, so you can join each other. In the neighbourhood there are pools, and if you stay at our luxury resort you can chill by one of the two pools it offers!

Vegetarian and Vegan´s also have options at the restaurant. Not all the fun has been taken out of the menu, you can still get French fries made with unpeeled potatoes! Also included at the Restaurant for extra costs is our protein and fruit shake bar offering a wide variety of Fruit and protein shakes and a selection of drinks to keep our guests maintaining a high amount of protein in their diet to help build muscle and lose fat.

If you are thinking it might be a little intimidating arriving at a fitness boot camp, you will be pleasantly surprised. There is a great supportive atmosphere, where everyone has a similar goal, to benefit from improving their fitness and well-being. Also you will have a serious introduction by our representative who will help you settle in and introduce you to the trainers and team at the fitness camp. He will explain you about all different training sessions and the meal plan (also included!). There can be up to 100 people at the camp so do not worry about being arriving on your own!

The camp is quite remote and there are no tourist bars and big supermarkets in the neighbourhood. Also, everyone you meet will be training and will be working on their health and fitness, so it is not hard not to go out, as everyone is focussed on getting fit! Also, we include a meal plan. These 2 meals a day are very fresh and healthy and we also include water and fruit. The other meals you can order at our restaurant or you can eat out in one of the restaurants down the road, they all have a healthy menu!

If you are planning on travelling to Thailand for 30 days or less and you have British, Dutch & Nordic or USA passport you can get a Visa exemption on arrival. This is valid for 30 days and can be extended in Thailand on Phuket for 30 days more. The cost will be around 1900 THB. Or (easier and more organised) if you are planning on being in Thailand longer than 30 days you will need to pre-arrange a Visa. You can prearrange a visa for 60 days which you can extend to 90 days in Thailand.

There are two ways of arranging your visa. When you are from the UK. You can either go in person to the Thai embassy in London, or you can post your passport along with the necessary documentation and fee to one of the Thai Consulates. In general, this works the same for the other countries like The Netherlands and United States too, but please contact the nearest Thai Consulate for visa inquiries.

Please note that you are responsible for arranging your own visa. Xtreme Gap cannot be held responsible if you fail to travel with the correct visa. So please check with your local embassy personally. The previous information is meant as a guide, but visa rules change often and frequently. So do not take this as the current law.

The joint motivating factor for people who attend the Thailand fitness boot camp is the desire to improve fitness and health. As all fitness programmes are tailored to your needs, no matter what your fitness levels or experience, the camp will be able to set you on your way to your personal fitness goals and in most cases exceed them.

You will be getting instruction from some of the worlds best trainers and you will build up a huge personal knowledge of how to get the most out of your workouts when you leave.

No, there is no kitchen, but you can get amazing healthy Thai meals from our health kitchen, which is just a stones throw from you or you could chat to our local rep about a meal plan too. The food is amazing.

The Training in Thailand

World Class Crossfit Style  Training. Strength, Conditioning & Weightloss.

It is the training that sets up camp apart, not just the quantity but also the quality of the workouts really get results. With an impressive roster of trainers, we are constantly improving our fitness routines incorporating the latest methods and techniques.

On average there can be 50-100 people training at the camp, from all over the world and it is not unusual to be working out with professional athletes and fitness professionals. As well as clients who are on holiday and want to get in shape, as well as people of poor fitness levels who want to learn how to improve their physique. With so many people coming and training the camp, naturally the latest fitness techniques are incorporated and developed in the training programmes. With just one month spent training at the Xtreme Gap Fitness Boot Camp, we can confidently state that you can develop so much further than six months with a personal trainer back home. Fitness results are really delivered.

The Training in Bali

World Class Crossfit Style  Training. Strength, Conditioning & Weightloss.

The training facilities are arguably some of the best in Bali. A substantial training facility that can accommodate up to 80 clients at one time. Not only do we have a fully functioning CrossFit area, plus resistance weights and an impressive stock of weights and machines. We also have recreational activities like volleyball, basketball and the soccer field as well.

Occasionally we hold conferences on health and fitness with guest speakers in the lecturing facilities there, although this is usually a special one-off event and not included in a typical package per se.

Everything is arranged for you: arrival, transport and awesome activities with new mates! It is flexible too, so you can spend up to 6 months completing it, and even include some work travel too.

Ultimate Australia

We will take you from Sydney to Cairns. This really is the trip of a lifetime and one that we think is a life changer. You might leave home a nervous, first-time traveler, but you´ll return a daring adventurer with more friends than you could have imagined!

We get it; you are nervous! But with your first 3 nights in Sydney arranged, including lots of activities, and a 5 day surf trip with a big group of other travellers followed by 1 night in Byron Bay… you will wonder why you were nervous. By this time you will have already made friends for life, it´s easy!

Remember 85% on the trip backpacks solo, so everyone is up for making new friends, but also everyone picks their own pace. After a few amazing days in Sydney, you get on the flexible backpacker bus and you can hop on and hop off where ever you like. People tend to travel together for a few days or weeks and then meet others again. As you might have 6 weeks and someone else has 5 months to travel and maybe also work in Australia. That is the deal with backpacking. It´s about meeting people, doing amazing stuff together and move on… but have memories for life!

As there are lots of activities included, a 5-day surf trip, a trip on Fraser island, where you go camping with a group on a stunning sand island and get a chance to drive the jeep too! A skydive which gives you an adrenaline shot you won’t believe, sailing on the great barrier reef and adrenaline activities in Cairns, they are all with other travellers. Enough people to meet I would say!

Here are just some of the main highlights (Click here for an overview of each activity):

By now jetlag should be a distant memory, but after three action-packed days and nights in Sydney you´ll probably be glad to have a break from the big city lights and lie on a gorgeous beach instead. Well, tough luck because you´re going surfing! You´ll be picked upsuper close to the hostel, to embark on an amazing five-day surfari. Thanks to the all-inclusive style of the trip the only thing you need to bring is yourself. All surf equipment, accommodation, and meals (except lunch on travelling days) is included. We even throw in that all important sun cream during the surf trip. Day nine onwards – Flexibility!

A quick note here to point out that after the Surf Camp all of the sectors included in the Ultimate Australia Trip can be done at your own pace, allowing you to combine your travels with some work in-between, should you need to top up those funds.

If you wish to complete the trip all in one go then you should allow for around 5 – 7 weeks, but you can take up to 6 months, which is highly likely once you get a taste of the Aussie lifestyle!

The hop on-hop off style bus can be booked a few days in advance for each of the following sectors.

Byron Bay to Rainbow Beach Sector

Byron Bay

This section of the trip begins with some time spent in Byron Bay, chilling out and soaking up the bohemian lifestyle. However, if that sounds a little too sedate for you then you can take advantage of the skydive that´s included in your trip it might only take a few minutes to get from 11,000 feet to the ground but the adrenaline rush will last so much longer! One night in Byron Bay is included at this point you will pick up all of your vouchers for the remaining activities awaiting you up the East coast.

Nimbin (optional not included)

The day trip to Nimbin is the perfect antidote to too much excitement (is that even possible?!). After being picked up from your accommodation, the Grasshoppers bus will take you through the stunning scenery of Byron Bay to the famous town of Nimbin, Australia´s ´alternative lifestyle´ capital. You´ll have around an hour to experience the hippie atmosphere and sample some special cakes before heading off to the explore rainforests and waterfalls, enjoy a pint in an historic Aussie pub and tuck into some food from the barbie.

It´s quite possible that you´ll get to see Koalas and Kookaburras during the trip, and that´s before the beer! Surfers Paradise The next part of the bus trip takes you from Byron Bay north to Surfers Paradise aptly named due to the 3km golden sand beach, right on the Pacific Ocean. There is something for everyone here, so if you need another shot of adrenaline there is bungy jumping and jet boating, if you´re the sporty type you can enjoy the surfing and beach volleyball, whilst those in need of some relaxation can chill out on the beach or in the cafes and parks of the Northside or West Quay districts.

Brisbane

The next stop for the bus is the city of Brisbane, capital of the ´Sunshine State´ of Queensland (but where isn’t sunny in Oz?). So, what can you expect here? A vibrant nightlife with the abundance of bars and clubs, a bit of culture at the City Hall and Parliament House and the chance to get up close with some of Australia´s most well known natives at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. There is so much indoor and outdoor stuff to do here that you´ll never be bored and being the biggest city in Queensland it can be a good place to stop off for some work.

Noosa

On the way from Brisbane to Rainbow Beach there is a stop off at the town of Noosa, to drop off old friends and pick up new ones. There is also a chance to have a wander around Wildhorse Mountain National Park, which provides some great photo opportunities of the gorgeous Sunshine Coast area yet something else to make those friends at home envious about!

Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island

Rainbow beach is a must-stop place to pick up the Fraser Island 4 x 4 tour. This unique site, the largest sand island in the world, will blow your mind with its beauty  pristine white sand beaches, freshwater lakes and the world´s only sand-dwelling rainforest. This is definitely one you can tick off the ´100 places to visit before you die´ list. Not only does the trip include two nights´ accommodation at Noosa Backpackers, but also two nights camping under the stars, a chance to drive across the endless sands and the opportunity to meet some dingoes (human or canine depends on who is in your group!) Back at Rainbow Beach you can indulge in some more close encounters of the animal kind (we´re talking marine life here) with the opportunity to feed the dolphins. Plus you can meet some new trip recruits at the Noosa hostel stop.

Rainbow Beach to 1770 Sector

After pick-ups and drop-offs at Noosa the bus continues on to the towns of Childers and Bundaberg, which are the ideal place to stop off and replenish your dosh by doing some fruit picking. It´s pretty hard work but well worth it to make sure you’ve got enough funds for extra activities and partying. However, don´t go too mad on the Bundaberg Rum, or Bundy as it´s known, otherwise that fruit picking will be twice as hard! The next opportunity for stopping off and chilling out for a few days is the gorgeous little seaside village of 1770. If you want to spend a bit of time relaxing on golden sands and dipping your toes in the crystal clear turquoise water of the Coral Sea, then this is the place for you. There is still a ton of fun activities coming up on the trip so make sure you recharge your batteries so you can make the most of it! 1770 to Airlie Beach Sector

Airlie Beach a highlight of the trip  the Whitsundays cruise.

The three night package here includes two nights at the cool Nomads hostel and one night/two days sailing, giving you the chance to experience these unbelievable islands beaches, rainforest, unusual marine life and a party-to-remember. This will take you to Whitehaven beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

Airlie Beach to Cairns Sector

Townsville

The beach theme continues in Townsville, where you´ll be staying at one of the best hostels (own expense), right on the gorgeous sand, or on stunning Magnetic Island just off the coast. This is the sunniest spot on the Queensland coast, so you can make the most of the outdoor activities swimming, snorkelling, hiking, koala spotting or just chilling out with your mates. There is plenty going on at the hostel and when it comes to night-time entertainment look out for the full moon parties definitely something to remember (or not!).

Mission Beach

White sand beaches, lush rainforest and activities galore await you at the paradise hideaway of Mission Beach. A few days here can be as sedate or adrenaline filled as you choose and if you didn’t take advantage of the skydive option in Byron Bay, now´s your chance! You won´t get a better view of the area and long after you touch down on the ground your euphoria levels will still be sky high. Mission Beach is also home to the impressive Cassowary, a huge flightless bird with very big claws, a sharp beak and bad-ass attitude you might not want to get too close, but they are certainly a sight to see.

Cairns Adrenaline Overload

You wouldn´t be in Oz if the last part of your ultimate adventure didn´t finish with a bang and that´s exactly what you get with the five night Adrenaline Overload tour! You´ll start by checking in to your accommodation at the Cairns hostel and getting to know your dorm mates in the bar before finding out from your guide exactly what you´ll be up to over the next few days.

Jungle Tour

You could settle in with a relaxing tour of the Daintree Rainforest, river cruise and visit to Mossman Gorge. The rainforest is unique in that it grows right down to the water´s edge and is one of the most complex ecosystems on earth, containing an abundance of Australian plant and wildlife, including the Idiot Fruit (honestly, we´re not kidding!). Ok, biology lesson over.

Tully River

If you´ve been a bit shy getting to know your dorm mates then getting thrown around in an inflatable raft whilst being pounded with foamy water is the perfect way to break the ice! Your Tully River trip is a full day that includes hostel pick-up/drop off, BBQ lunch, highly experienced guides and up to 5 hours rafting, not to mention other activities such as rock jumping, rapid swimming, and raft surfing. You won´t go home dry but you will be on a high!

Great Barrier Reef

You can´t visit Oz and not visit the world famous Great Barrier Reef, and as trips go the Passions of Paradise tour is the best on offer. Dates are flexible and there are daily sailings, so you can fit this in when you choose. You may have seen images of this amazing natural attraction in books or on TV, but nothing can prepare you for seeing it in real life   exotic marine life, colourful coral gardens, and stunning views all around will take your breath away almost as much as the skydiving! If snorkeling isn´t enough for you, you could always use some of your hard earned cash (or the bank of mum and Dad!) to take a diving trip.

Diving Options

If you want to do the Great Barrier Reef in style we strongly suggest you do a live aboard on the outer reef. You have 2 options to upgrade. If you are already an open water (or higher diving certification) qualified diver you can do an 11 dive live aboard trip.

If you do not hold an existing diving qualification, you will need to do your open water course which can be incorporated into the live aboard trip. This involves doing 9 dives on the outer reef. Please see the pricing section for the different costs of the upgrades.

Finally

The minimum amount of time you need to complete this trip is 5 weeks, although you can FastTrack your travel through sectors by jumping on a Greyhound (they also run Oz experience so you can use both services) which is ideal if you only have a short amount of time before college or university, but you can take up to six months if you want to make it more of a gap year travel a bit, work a bit, etc.

One thing to remember is that drives are very long, Australia is enormous and the bus might not go every day, so double check the schedules and be prepared to supplement some of the Oz experience sectors with greyhounds if you are in a rush.

However you decide to do it this really is the trip of a lifetime and one that we think is a life changer you might leave home a nervous, first-time traveler, but you´ll return a daring adventurer with more friends than you could have imagined!

Standard Travel Option Vs The Boomerang

Most people start in Sydney and then travel up the East Coast to Cairns, some people like to add in work and travel to their trip and they figure Sydney is a good place to look for work. For this reason we also offer the boomerang option which means after the surf tour you return to Sydney (instead of being dropped off at Byron Bay) where you can start to look for work. When you are ready to travel up the coast you then start your Oz experience Bruce pass and continue the journey once more. The boomerang option is a little bit more expensive because you will cover a much greater distance and require a more expensive Oz experience pass. Checked the prices tab for details. Please note we cannot upgrade you once you have booked so you need to notify us at the time of booking if you require the boomerang option.

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

Yes this trip starts on a Sunday. This is the day you arrive in Sydney.

Lots of Xtreme Gappers combine this trip with working in Australia. Some even do the sailing course so they can work on a sailing boat on the Whitsundays straight after. A job is 99% guaranteed and helps you save up for some extra cash before you continue your trip again!

“The minimum amount of time you need to complete this trip is 5 weeks, which is ideal if you only have a short amount of time before college or university, but you can take up to six months if you want to make it more of a gap year travel a bit, work a bit, etc.

One thing to remember is that drives are very long, Australia is enormous and the bus might not go every day, so double check the schedules.

If time is really tight you can FastTrack your journey by using the Greyhound (your Oz experience pass is interchangeable with this).

Will there always be others on the tour?

Yes, there will, although you may not be travelling with exactly the same people that the entire duration of the journey. You start off with your 3 nights stay in Sydney followed by the amazing 5 day surf trip. There are normally between 20 and 40 young travellers on the surf trip. From then on you have 1 party night and accommodation in Byron Bay. In Byron you are on the Flexible bus pass, so you will be travelling with other groups as you complete the journey.

The East coast of Australia is very social, so don’t worry you will make loads of new friends guaranteed.

After the surf tour you will stay one night in a flash Packers in Byron Bay, this is where you will sit down at the travel desk and collect your vouchers for your remaining activities. This is also a great place to do your skydive, although many people also opt to do this in mission beach.

Your first eight nights accommodation are already arranged for you, this lasts until Byron Bay at which point you are able to pre-book further accommodation or just see how you go. We recommend you play it by ear because you will talk to others, get tips, read cool stuff, find deals etc on route.

No, 21 nights accommodation is included but you will need to book extra

There is no need to take a lot of cash as there are ATM’s everywhere we stop. Payments can be done in cash or by card. during your arrival package assistance can be given the you to set up a bank account as well so you might want to transfer money into an Australian bank to save on international bank fees.

The amount of money you need depends on how long you go and if you wish to go out a lot etc.

Here we have listed some costs (prices are an indication and may vary due to change in currency rates).

Dorm accommodation will cost about £10 to £15.

Meals are about £5 to £15, but you always have the possibility to cook in the big kitchens of the hostels. This is also a fun way to get to know other people. You will be cooking side to side, most people make spaghetti 🙂

Drinks: a beer will be £2 and wine will be about £3 to £5. But there are always lots of backpacker bars and happy hours. We know what you like.

Money for extra activities along the way. Out of experience we know it is better to book all you definitely want to do up front, because otherwise you spend it on drinks and you will fail to be able to do all the exiting stuff.

You have 12 months to complete the trip and in total there are 21 nights of accommodation included in all the activities.

With the exception of the start date for the Thailand Experience, and the Sydney connection everything else is flexible so you can spend as long as you like on this trip. This is quite handy to combine with Australia working holiday Visa programmes.

Payment Schedule

  • Time of booking if travelling in more than 6 months -25% deposit of the balance

This ensures you have enough time to save for your flights, spending money and insurance.

Most of your transfers on this trip are in private vehicles (ie just for you and the group). Exactly what sort of vehicle depends on the group size.

Why is this important?

Whilst there is lots of public transport available in Thailand, much of it is very uncomfortable, there are very few regulations about safety (it’s not uncommon for drivers to be on the go for 18-24 hours plus) and also it’s almost impossible to guarantee to get a group of travellers together (with their bags) all in the same vehicle. On some routes, you’re able to buy tickets in advance but on many other routes it’s a matter of hoping there is room on the bus or simply waiting for another.

Not the best way to spend your precious time.
By using private transfers we can:
• Guarantee the safety standards of the companies we use
• Ensure that drivers are assessed, do not drive too far in one go, are not drunk etc
• Ensure that all the group are in the same vehicle and that we’re not waiting for ages for another bus to come
• Plan our trips to fit in what’s best for the traveller – rather than what’s best for a transport company!
What transport do we use?
For groups of 10 or less we use ‘luxury’ minivans. With comfortable seats, air-conditioning, good experienced drivers – and a decent sound system if you want to listen to some tunes – these are perfect. Of course they leave when we ask them to, we can stop en route where we want to and the whole travel experience is far better, far more comfortable and far safer than any ‘public’ minivan.

Additionally, as there’s no random stopping to drop people off / pick people up they are far quicker – even though we can ensure that speed limits are obeyed!
For long distances with larger groups, we use private coaches. These have the same benefits as the private minivans along with, of course, more space. Depending on the size of the group we use either 30 or 40 seater coaches (we always make sure there’s enough room for baggage!) giving you great room to spread out a bit and relax.
The journey from Kanchanaburi to Surin, in particular, is a horrible one by public transport. As a group we would need to travel to either Ayutthaya or Bangkok, then change to another bus or minivan (with all the waiting around that entails) and then head to Surin – not only adding a whole load of wasted time but also a whole load of elements that are then unplanned (what time with the minivan leave, will we all be able to get into the same minivan etc).
The journey from Surin to Pak Chong may, on occasion with smaller groups, use the train. Whilst the train is slower than a private minivan or coach, it can be fun and gives a very different travel experience to the group, provides different scenery and of course allows to you wander around.

All our guides are Thai, bi-lingual (Thai and English) and fully licensed and trained – as is required by Thai law. In fact it’s illegal to be a tour guide in Thailand if you’re not Thai and quite right too – after all Thai people know their own country better than anyone else, tend to speak much better Thai than anyone else (!) and also are simply the best people at making sure anyone in Thailand has a great time.

Thai’s are also some of, if not the world’s best problem solvers. Growing up in a country where the unexpected can and does tend to happen makes Thai people absolute experts at anything anyone can throw their way. And they still manage to sort out any issues with a smile on their face, not an easy thing!
After all, why come all the way to Thailand to be led around the country from someone from home? Thai’s do and will always know their own country best and understand everything about what’s going on as opposed to those from elsewhere who often think they understand but don’t really!

Our guides know the locations you’re travelling to like the back of their hand. They know the coolest places (not necessarily the place that the guidebooks think are the coolest!), they know the places to avoid (not always easy to spot when you’re not from here) and they know how to have the most fun.

They’ve not just travelled here for a few months – they’ve lived here all their lives and you just can’t replace that sort of insider knowledge. They all work full-time with us and are constantly updating their knowledge from our network of guides (bars and clubs are always changing and why waste your time heading to a bar that is oh so last season?) and making sure they keep their fingers on the pulse of what’s going on.

Full-time guides are quite a rarity in Thailand – lots of companies prefer to use freelance guides to make sure they aren’t paying salaries in between tours – but we believe passionately in full-time employment for our team. This means that they can plan their lives and support families, they know that we will always look after them and, equally importantly, we can run on-going training and support programmes for our team. Simply put – full-time guides are way better at delivering tours than those who jump between different companies and different styles of travel.
We run on-going training for all of our guides to ensure their skills are top quality and they manage to combine huge amounts of laughs and fun with keeping everyone fit, healthy and safe.

Full Details Mexico Bootcamp

Mexico fitnessThe Mexico fitness bootcamp holiday is different from our Thailand Fitness Bootcamp in that it focuses on Crossfit with added  gym workouts and counselling to support your Crossfit workouts plus some unique Mexican activities.

You have probably heard of Crossfit as it has literally taken the fitness world by storm. Crossfit consists of very high-intensity workouts usually no more than one hour per day. Now if that doesn’t sound like enough training, believe us when we tell you that you do not need anything more. It is a world of pain that gets better every single time you do it. When people tell you this fitness and exercise is addictive, around about the third session you will understand why.

You can choose whether you take your class in the morning, or afternoon (we advise the morning) and you can also focus on less intense activities like yoga, Stand Up Paddling (SUP), swimming and gym workouts to support your overall strength and balance.

The goal of the Mexico Fitness Bootcamp Holiday is not only to provide you with an awesome holiday, but for you to come away with a stronger and fitter body and a more positive state of mind.

We will give you a total mental and physical makeover focusing on the following key fitness elements:

We will work on your cardiovascular and respiratory stamina

You should feel your strength, flexibility and stamina increasing significantly throughout your stay. How much you develop basically depends on how long you go for, and how hard you work at it, but everything is there to help support you reach your fitness goals and come home feeling a lot healthier physically capable and mentally blown away.

You will find it completely incredible of what you can achieve when you are physically in shape. It affects everything, how you feel, what you can do, your limits, how you think, how you are. It will just as much have a dramatic impact on not only your body, but also your state of mind and overall your joy in life and your self-confidence.

Crossfit Works

Cross fit works. It uses functional movements with constant variation executed at high intensity. Because it uses functional movements it’s not just strength and fitness that increases. Your coordination, agility and balance will improve, giving you everything you need to lay down the basis for a completely new active healthy lifestyle

Strength training

Crossfit is very good for high-intensity cardio workouts, but if your gain is to build muscle mass you can also do Olympic lifting or do additional workouts in the gym under guidance from our personal trainer.

World-class fitness professionals training

The Mexico Fitness Bootcamp is headed up by the top Crossfit instructors in Mexico. They are currently ranked number one and number two respectively. Whilst lessons are delivered predominantly in Spanish, they can also explain in English if necessary.

If you want to develop your Spanish skills whilst attending the fitness camp, we can also add in a crash course of Spanish in the morning with cross fit in the afternoon. Please ask us the details.

Personal assistance

It’s not just the supportive environment during the Cross fit sessions, we have a representative based in Playa del Carmen who will give you full introduction and make sure you are okay. The owners and the staff of the hostel will make you feel like family in no time. On arrival, our rep sits down with you to talk you trough the programme and you can enjoy the welcome dinner. On Monday morning, we take you out on a City Bike tour to get to know the town, the gym and cross fit center.

It’s a fitnesTulums Holiday, not a punishment

On the Xtreme Mexico Fitness Bootcamp Holiday, yes the goal is to get fit but it is also about experiencing the best Mexico has to offer. You are close to the beach with a whole host of water sports available to you, from SUP to free diving, kite surfing to learning to dive. You can easily add on plenty of activities to your itinerary, many of which complement your fitness programme rather well. You can arrange this locally with our rep.

Airport pick-up is included with the Mexico fitness Boot Camp. We organize a private transfer for you. All we need is your flight details, email them at least 2 weeks before starting your programme.
Breakfasts are included but lunch and dinner is not. As there are a variety of great restaurants and places to eat feedback from clients has suggested it’s better to not include these. We will give you advice on nutrition, and also show you where the best places to eat are located in Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen is a very social place, by providing a meal plan you would be missing out on much of the social side of the programme.
Yes there is! You can use the kitchen at the accommodation to prepare your meals. also in walking distance is a massive supermarket with beautiful food! So if you like preparing your own meals and you want to keep the costs down, this is a perfect option.
You need to check your own eligibility for visas when entering Mexico prior to arrival, however currently citizens from the USA, most of Europe and Australia do not need visas for Mexico. You will need to pay an exit fee of US$50 when you fly home and you will need to have this in cash with you at the airport. Credit cards are not accepted.
There’s loads of extra things you can do in Playa del Carmen. We can add a Spanish course to your programme, free diving, kite surfing (in season), whale shark tours, scuba diving, visits to ruins, paddleboarding and adventure days. Please ask us for details.
Please note during the BPM festival (New year and first week of January) the rates of accommodation goes up in the whole of Playa del Carmen and there will be an additional supplement to pay if you choose to train over these dates.
Want to learn some Spanish whilst you train? You can upgrade with additional Spanish classes for £189 per week.
From the 20th Dec-20th Jan the prices increase. Please contact us for a custom quote.

Imagine spending your summer in the exhilarating city of Barcelona, embracing all aspects of life in sunny Spain, from the sexy language and the blissful siestas to the mouth-watering food and amazing wine. It´s safe to say that life in Barcelona is pretty sweet. So don´t envy them, join them! The exciting trip feature a great intro to the city with an intensive language course.

Learn Spanish In Barcelona With Xtreme Activities!

Barcelona is one of the coolest cities in Spain, and Europe. Not only do you get to live here, immersing yourself in a new culture for a few weeks or months, but you´ll also become fluent in one of the most important and widely used languages in the world. After Barcelona, there´ll be no stopping you from hopping on a plane to South America, Central America or the Caribbean; the world is your oyster when you master the language of love!

Barcelona is a fantastic place to live and learn Spanish for many reasons; the year-round great weather, the amazing arts and music scene, including huge festivals like Benicassim, the Primavera Sound Festival and Sonisphere Barcelona Festival, and, of course, the city´s central location in Europe allows you to easily explore some of the best spots on the continent.

Did we mention that Barcelona is a beach city? So, if you´re feeling too hot from the gorgeous weather, or you want to relax after an intensive Spanish lesson, you can simply stroll to the beach to dip your toes in the warm Mediterranean  Sea.

What should you do when you´re not studying Spanish? There are lots of things to do on your time off, from exploring the history and culture of Barcelona through the beautiful architecture, the amazing museums and the mesmerising art, to travelling around the country and continent, visiting the best beaches, cities and festivals that Europe has to offer. Trust us, there´s nowhere more exciting to spend a gap year than Europe in the summertime!

Highlights

We pack a load into this short itinerary that you still have plenty of time to check out the must see places and obligatory sites like the Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell Cathedral and much more.

THE BARCELONA SPANISH COURSE

Learning Spanish in Barcelona is easy, fun and flexible. All of our courses in Barcelona can be completely tailored to suit your lifestyle, whether you want to accommodate a job and can only commit to a few hours of learning each week, or if you want to fully immerse yourself in the language-learning process and come out speaking Spanish like a native.

From just 5 hours a week in the mornings or evenings, to over 30 hours a week of intensive full-time learning, our Spanish courses are both professional and extremely effective, leaving you with plenty of time and independence to decide how you spend the rest of your time in Spain.

In fact, the courses have a nice little twist to them in the form of ´gamification´. In the ´Casa´ where you will go to complete your lessons, beginners start on the bottom floor of the building (Level A1) and literally ´level up´ as their Spanish improves and they move on to more difficult courses. By improving your skills, you will gradually move up to higher floors in the building until you reach the very top level; floor 6 (Level C2)!

It´s these small details that make learning Spanish with us so fun and intriguing. No more boring classes, yawn-inducing teachers or pointless books. We provide you with the best, most appropriate material, the coolest and most qualified teachers, and the most amazing way to learn Spanish fast; through living and immersing yourself in one of the coolest cultures and cities in Europe!

All of the Spanish courses have been certified by the Cervantes Institute, so you can be confident that the qualifications you receive in Barcelona will be widely recognized as standard-level Spanish qualifications across the world.

Course Schedule

Apart from the weather, food, amazing city and awesome culture, one of the main reason why so many students choose to study in our Barcelona Spanish school is because of the flexibility they are awarded here.

From choosing how many hours you want to study per week, to choosing how many weeks you will stay in Barcelona, there is a lot of room for flexibility and changes of plans. You can even extend your course on a week-by-week basis, in case you are not sure how long you can stay. That means you´ll have plenty of time to yourself for traveling, eating, partying, dating hot Spaniards, or whatever other way you choose to spend your time!

Choose from the Standard Spanish Courses (max. 10 students per class) with hours ranging from 6 to 30 hours per week, the Combined Spanish Courses (private and group lessons) with hours ranging from 5 to 24 hours per week, or a range of other courses like the Exam Preparation Courses, Private Spanish Courses, Express Spanish Courses and Long Courses (up to 48 weeks!!).

Homestay Accommodation

One of the really nice things about this learn Spanish programme is that you stay in a homestay in Barcelona. This really helps you integrate with the local environment and it’s really nice to have a supporting friendly family looking after you.

As the name suggests, a homestay is where you live with a host family. All of our host families have been thoroughly vetted, and are used to hosting our students so even if you are a little bit nervous about going to a completely foreign city you will be made most welcome.

The host family will take care of your accommodation and your food during your stay. Obviously, there’s a social side to studying Barcelona as well, as you will be meeting and hanging out with other students but always be mindful and respectful of your host family as well.

Typically you will have your own room in an apartment or house close to the language school. Each of our host families are located in different areas, so they will familiarise you with the Metro system (Barcelona has an excellent public transport infrastructure) and you will feel at home in no time.

“This travel pass allowed me to be very flexible during my trip. I travelled with my girlfriend and were able to do what we wanted, whenever we wanted without the hassle of having to organize everything ourselves. I am sure we could have organized some of the things ourselves, but we would have lost a lot of time trying to figure out how to do it. The activities that they included where a lot of fun, like the sandboarding in Inca, and the volcano trek to Misty in Arequipa. I feel I really got to discover Peru!!”

We arrive mid-morning, giving you plenty of time to explore the fascinating historical park by bike or enjoy a boat journey through the “Venice of the East”. We leave late evening to Chiang Mai.

Non Travel Day: Arrival in Chiang Mai
We arrive into the train station between 8:00 11:00am. Chiang Mai is an amazing city with endless activity options. Some of our favourites are a tree top adventure with Flight of the Gibbon, trekking, rafting, and traditional cooking classes. There’s also the famous night market, the Night Safari (Asia’s largest) and easy access to Pai village.

Non Travel Day: Chiang Mai

You will spot water buffalo, mountain-side rice paddies, local fishermen, and kids splashing in the shallows. We arrive in the remote village of Pakbeng late afternoon and stay overnight by the river.

Trip Frequently Asked Questions

Accommodation

Actually there is none with this trip! The passes do not include accommodation because you can choose how long you want to stay in one place and where. If you want the tour leaders to book you a bed, it is no problem, you can do it on the bus as you travel. This way we make it easy for you and you do not have to look around in the hot sun to check out accommodation options and haggle on prices.

Light clothes for the wet season (May Oct) and something warm for the dry season (Nov Mar), especially for the north of Laos and Thailand; a good travel medical kit supplied by a doctor (for any inconveniences, dietary or otherwise); your travel insurance details; sunscreen; bug repellent (at least 30% deet content); girls – a sarong for swimming in remote areas, Lao culture requires modesty; a poncho or light raincoat (it can rain even in the dry season in the north), shoes/trainers for walking and a good sense of adventure!
The best (and easiest) way to carry gear around Laos is in a sturdy backpack. You can bring a suitcase with wheels but you may find yourself dragging it down a dirt track! Bring a smaller day pack so you can carry bug repellent, a camera, sunscreen and water.
things may change depending on the group, driver, season and local conditions. On our bus routes you can break your journey and spend longer anywhere along the way.
We pick up from selected locations in each town (specific accommodation places and our offices). You need to advise us before 5pm the day before you want to depart where you want to be picked up. Please login to your bookings to confirm your departure time and place. Please note we do not visit all departure points every day, only if we have confirmed pickups, so please ensure you let us know where you will be waiting.
Western food is sparse outside the main centres of Laos so be prepared and open minded about eating local food. At our stops we recommend tasty restaurants but when you get into local villages and home stays be prepared to eat simple local fare, with maybe the odd wildcard ingredient (which is part of the fun). Supermarkets are not the norm but we will point out places where you can stock up on food for the day. Please note vegetarian meal options are not always available but excellent fruit and vegetables are plentiful at the local markets.

  • Plain of Jars – located around Phonsavanh in western Laos, these giant stone jars litter the countryside around the township. No one really knows their origin or use but there are a number of local legends shedding light on the story of the jars.

Cambodia

  • Preah Vihear – located on the Thai/Cambodia border in northern Cambodia, this ancient temple is a source of ongoing territorial disputes between the two countries. Located on the top of a mountain it has stunning views across both countries.
  • S21 & Killing Fields – these two sites located in and around Phnom Penh were used during the Khmer Rouge era to imprison, torture and kill anyone who was considered a threat to the regime. They have become a museum and shrine in modern day Cambodia.
  • Udong – located just northeast of Phnom Penh, ancient Udong was a Khmer stronghold when Cambodia was under siege from Thailand in the 16th century. Today it is a popular sacred site for the locals who come to make offerings at the mountain top pagodas and picnic at the hammock restaurant at the base of the mountain.
  • Bamboo Train – located outside Battambang in eastern Cambodia the bamboo train is what is left of the rail system built by the French and destroyed by the Khmer Rouge. Locals use it as simple form of transport between villages and tourists are welcome to take a ride.
