Day 1 Arusha
Today we depart the bustling capital of Kenya and cross the border into Tanzania and this afternoon we make our preparations for the optional excursion to the Serengeti NP and Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 2 Serengeti and Ngorongoro Excursion
The following days are set aside for the 3-night optional camping excursion into the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. This area has one of the most densely inhabited large animal populations in Africa. The Serengeti excursion is in open topped 4×4 safari vehicles in order to tackle the challenging side roads in the parks. We leave our accommodation in the morning and drive to the Serengeti. On arrival we will start with our first game drive.
The campsites we visit are fully owned by the Tanzania National Parks Board. Over 90,000 tourists visit the Serengeti National Park annually. These facilities are sadly not sufficiently maintained by the Parks Board and we have attempted to offer our services to improve the situation, however our offers were not accepted. We do ask that you have an open mind when visiting the ablutions in the Serengeti National Park. Please supply your own wet wipes and toilet paper.
For those are not taking part in the optional Serengeti Excursion, you will remain behind at the accommodation, take this chance to absorb some of the fascinating local culture. Optional Activities available to be booked at the accommodation: Various Serengeti & Ngorongoro Excursion packages, Lake Manyara game drives, day hiking & village tours and many more various day trips. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 Serengeti and Ngorongoro Excursion
Today we explore some more of the Serengeti and make our way to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. We drive down to the bottom of the Crater, where we try and see as many animals as possible. The itinerary of the Serengeti Excursion is flexible to ensure the best game viewing experience.
Day 5 Arusha, Tanzania
Today those that went into the Serengeti NP and Ngorongoro will meet up with the truck in Arusha, where there will be time to share stories of the wonderful African animals seen in the park.
Day 6 Bagamoyo
We leave Arusha early and head south towards Bagamoyo, who’s name goes back to the days of slavery and means “lay down your heart”. Our accommodation for the night is situated on the beach. Tonight we will prepare for the Zanzibar excursion.
Day 7 Zanzibar Excursion
A local ferry will take us from Dar es Salaam (where we leave the truck) to Zanzibar. We take a transfer to the northern part of the island where we will spend our time relaxing on the beach. Please note: If you have not purchased the Activity Package you will stay at the accommodation in Dar es Salaam for the following 3 nights
Day 8 Zanzibar Excursion
Enjoy your time on Zanzibar by relaxing at the beach or exploring, snorkelling, scuba diving or taking a sunset boat cruise through the waters. Today is for relaxing.
Day 9 Zanzibar Excursion
On the 3rd day, we head south to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, where we will spend the night. Here we have time to explore the historical and unique architecture. There are also spice and seafood markets to be explored which we will discover on our included Spice Tour.
Day 10 Dar es Salaam
Today we leave Zanzibar and catch a ferry back to Dar es Salaam and return to our truck and campsite, where your tour ends upon arrival in Dar es Salaam.
Optional Activity pack
Our tours come with an “Optional Activity Package”. You will need to purchase this package if you would like to partake in what we consider to be “essential activities” on our tours. The Activity Package has been written into the itinerary of the tour so please keep this in mind as if you don’t book the package, the activities won’t be included. We suggest that you prebook and prepay for your Activity Package to ensure availability.
Accommodation
On our camping tours you will be staying in two-man dome tents. We supply a mattress and you supply your own sleeping bag. The accommodated tours stay in traditional huts, permanent tented camps and hostel-style rooms.
Please note you need to arrange your own pre and post tour accommodation.
Pre Tour accommodation
Sentrim Boulevard Nairobi
Sentrim Boulevard Hotel is located close to the Nairobi National Museum and the University of Nairobi. It is within walking distance of the city market, a Barclays ATM on the University grounds and there is a grocery store nearby. Depending on the traffic in Nairobi, it can take anything from 20 to 60 minutes to get to or from the airport.
On one side of the hotel lie well manicured and landscaped gardens where you can relax before or after your tour. On the other side of the hotel is a pool where you can take a dip to wash off the heat of the city.
Recently refurbished, rooms are modestly decorated, clean and of a decent size. There is also Wifi available on request.
In the lobby you will find that there is a foreign exchange, a gift shop, laundry facilities and a restaurant, bar and lounge area.
Post tour accommodation
Kipepeo Beach is a mere 9kms from the heart of Dar es Salaam and on arrival you will feel like you have arrived on Zanzibar itself with it’s cool sea breeze, sparkling endless white sand beaches and crystal clear waters.
Break away from the craziness of Dar es Salaam, put your feet up in a hammock, listen to the lonesome cry of the Fish Eagle or the busy chattering of the pied Kingfisher as the sea breeze gently fills your soul with peace and tranquillity.
Go for a swim and then head to the bar or to your balcony and back to your hammock, where can enjoy an ice cold drink and something delicious to keep you satiated.
Kipepeo is on the South Coast of Dar es Salaam and is reached by crossing the Kigamboni Pontoon which links the city of Dar to the South Coast. This 5 minute trip will add a whole new dimension to your tour.
Food and Meals
Included are three hearty meals a day, (unless otherwise specified). Vegetarians are easily catered for and they’re always impressed by our varied menu. Our guides can produce miracles on a camp-stove. Special dietary requirements can be catered for, but only by special request. In East Africa it is more difficult to cater to certain requirements.
